My
Worship Time Focus: PT-1 “The God of Inevitable Vengeance”
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference:
Nahum 1:2-3a
Message
of the verses:
Aleph
A jealous and avenging God is Yahweh
Yahweh is avenging and wrathful.
Yahweh is avenging against His
adversaries,
And He keeps His anger For His
enemies.
Yahweh is slow to anger and great in
power,
And Yahweh will by no means leave the
guilty unpunished.
“2 God is
jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the
LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for
his enemies. 3 The LORD is slow
to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked:”
(KJV)
This morning I begin a new section
from the commentary of John MacArthur, the references that I am using to help
us understand what is in the book of Nahum.
MacArthur, who is now with the Lord worked on some Old Testament
commentaries shortly before his promotion to heaven earlier this year and this
is one of them along with Jonah which we just finished a few weeks ago. I am thankful to the Lord for allowing John
MacArthur to write these Old Testament commentaries so that I can use them in
my Spiritual Diaries. I am also very
much thankful to the Lord that the Holy Spirit of God is spreading these
Spiritual Diaries around the world for the cause of Jesus Christ. I look at the early part of the book of
Genesis where Moses writes about how God changed the languages at the tower of
Bable and that was very early after God had created the earth, and early also
after He flooded the earth, and the reason He changed the languages was because
if mankind all spoke the same language then there was nothing that they could
not accomplish, which most of it would be evil, and so now with modern technology
one can write in the English language and then put what is written onto the
internet and people then will be able to read it in their own language, or perhaps
even listen to it using AI listen to it in their own language as perhaps many
of you are doing. I want to use this technology
in order to glorify my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but unfortunately others
use it for evil.
John MacArthur begins this section
by writing “Nahum’s prophecy began in the form of an acrostic, in which letters
form the Hebrew alphabet introduces the various poetic stanzas (For more on
Nahum’s use of this rhetorical structure, see the discussion on verse 8.)” This
is something we will do when we get to verse eight.” “Each of these stanzas depicted Yahweh’s holy
justice, beginning with the declaration that God is jealous. While the term ‘jealous’ can denote
sinful envy, when applied to God it refers to His righteous zeal, His strong
desire to protect that which is rightfully His.
As a husband is justly jealous for his wife (Prov. 6:34; Song *:6; cf
Num. 5:11-31), so God is jealous for his people and unwilling to tolerate any
form of spiritual adultery (cf. Exodus 20:5; Deut. 4:24). The Lord is characterized by a holy zeal for
His own, to the extent that His very name is Jealous (Ex. 34:14). God’s fervent affection for His people
motivates His hand of discipline in response to their disobedience and also
prompts His hand of grace to restore and protect them (cf. Joel 2:18). The Ninevites, like so many godless and
wicked adversaries (cf. Ps. 2:1-3; 10:1-6; 94:7), assumed they could severely mistreat
God’s people without suffering any consequences. However, Nahum declared that Yahweh was
neither passive nor apathetic. The Lord
was zealous for Israel and would not overlook the wickedness enacted against
them (cf. Deut. 6:15).” Now there is a
lot of verse references in this paragraph we just looked at and I have chosen
not to look up all of them, but leave it to you if you desire to do so.
Spiritual
Meaning for My Life Today: I am thankful that my Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ took all of the punishment for my sins, and not only for mine, but for
everyone. I am also thankful that the
Lord loves me so much that He will not leave me the way I was when He saved me
on the 26th of January 1974, but continues to cause me to grow in
grace as I live my life on planet earth awaiting the return of the Lord to take
all of His Church to heaven in the Rapture of the church, the great HOPE for
believers.
My
Steps of Faith for Today:
Trusting the Lord to get us to my wife’s appointment this morning without any
problems with my bowel issues.
