Psalm 93 PT-2 (Psalm 93:3-5)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR

My Worship Time                                                                     Focus:  Psalm 93 PT-2

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                      Reference:  Psalm 93: 3-5

Message of the verses:  We began to look at the short 93rd Psalm in the last SD by looking at the introduction by several different Bible Commentators and then looked at the first two verses of the psalm.  Dr. Wiersbe believes that this psalm was written by a Levite after the return of the Jewish people from their captivity in Babylon.  He wrote the following at the end of his introductory commentary:  “This brief hymn magnifies the Lord by presenting three divine assurances.”

God Is Greater That Our Circumstances (vv. 3-4):  “3  The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. 4  More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.”

“3  The floods have risen up, O LORD.  The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. 4  But mightier than the violent raging of the seas,  mightier than the breakers on the shore-  the LORD above is mightier than these!”

I want to give several examples of how the Bible uses the sea and even the roaring sea as a picture of the rise and fall of the nations and the great noise that rulers make as they desire to impress people:

Psalm 46:1-3 “1  God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; 3  Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.”

Isaiah 17:12-13 “12 ¶  Alas, the uproar of many peoples Who roar like the roaring of the seas, And the rumbling of nations Who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters! 13  The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters, But He will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind, Or like whirling dust before a gale.”

Isaiah 51:15 “"For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea and its waves roar (the LORD of hosts is His name).’”

Isaiah 60:5 “"Then you will see and be radiant, And your heart will thrill and rejoice; Because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you, The wealth of the nations will come to you.”

Jeremiah 51:42 “"The sea has come up over Babylon; She has been engulfed with its tumultuous waves.’”

Daniel 7:1-3 “1 ¶  In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel saw a dream and visions in his mind as he lay on his bed; then he wrote the dream down and related the following summary of it. 2  Daniel said, "I was looking in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. 3  "And four great beasts were coming up from the sea, different from one another.”

Luke 21:25 “"There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves.”

Revelations 13:1 “And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.”

Revelations 17:15 “And he *said to me, "The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.”

Daniel describes the antichrist as a little horn who will boast of great things, “Daniel 7:8  "While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.”  As we look at the power and boasting of the antichrist from different chapters of the Bible we will soon realize that as far as humans born from the seed of Adam he will be the most powerful of all, yet we know that he is nothing when compared to the power of God.  One of the attributes of God is that He is all powerful, and this means that no one is as powerful as Him, no one even comes close to His power.  Satan does not come close to His power.

This means to us that when we are having troubles we should do as Dr. Wiersbe writes, “Do not focus on the threats around you; focus on the throne above you.”  Revelations chapters four and five are short chapters but the focus on the throne of God and worth reading.

God Always Keeps His Word (v.5):  “5  Your royal laws cannot be changed.  Your reign, O LORD, is holy forever and ever.”

“5  Your royal laws cannot be changed.  Your reign, O LORD, is holy forever and ever.”  (NLT)

“5  Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, forever.”  (AV)

Dr. Wiersbe writes “When the tempest is around us, we look by faith to the throne of grace above us and the Word of God before us.  The truth about what is going on in this world is not in the newspapers but in the Scriptures.”

Pilot asked Jesus what is truth, but we read before this question in John 14:6 that Jesus said that “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”  We read about false teachers or false prophets throughout the Scriptures, and they come from the realm of Satan who has been attacking the Word of God ever since he attacked Eve in the garden.

“Ps 119:89  LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Ps 119:105  NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Ps 119:140  Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Ps 119:160  Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

John 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Spiritual meaning for my life:  In this short psalm we see much about the Word of God and the God of the Word.  We can always trust the Word of God for in it is found all we need to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, and all we need to grow spiritually.  We realize that God is on His throne and He is in charge even though at times it may be hard to realize it, but according to His Word this is true.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I want to continue to abide in the Vine, seeking to do the will of God by trusting that if I abide in the Vine He will direct my path to do His will.

Memory verse for the week:  2Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:”
