The King Will Reign PT-2 (Isaiah 32:5-20)

SPIRITIUAL DIARY FOR 9/20/2013 11:29 AM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The King Will Reign PT-2

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Isaiah 32:5-20

Message of the verses:  We will continue with our study from Isaiah 32 in today’s SD.

“5 No longer will the fool be called noble, Or the rogue be spoken of as generous. 6 For a fool speaks nonsense, And his heart inclines toward wickedness: To practice ungodliness and to speak error against the LORD, To keep the hungry person unsatisfied And to withhold drink from the thirsty. 7 As for a rogue, his weapons are evil; He devises wicked schemes To destroy the afflicted with slander, Even though the needy one speaks what is right. 8 But the noble man devises noble plans; And by noble plans he stands.”  (NASB)

“5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. 6  For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. 7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. 8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.”  (KJV)

“5 In that day ungodly fools will not be heroes.  Scoundrels will not be respected. 6 For fools speak foolishness and make evil plans. They practice ungodliness and spread false teachings about the LORD. They deprive the hungry of food and give no water to the thirsty. 7 The smooth tricks of scoundrels are evil.  They plot crooked schemes. They lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor is just. 8 But generous people plan to do what is generous,  and they stand firm in their generosity.”  (NLT)

The NLT seems to help us better understand what these verses are saying.  In Isaiah’s day and in our own day many people admire and look up to the rich and famous, wishing they could be like them, but when you look really hard at most of them and the things they do you would not want to be like them for they want to take advantage of the poor and they want to look out for themselves no matter how they hurt others.  In the Kingdom age when Jesus Christ rules from Jerusalem this will not happen.

Dr. Wiersbe writes “Behind the selfish rulers of Judah, and influencing them for evil, were the aristocratic women’ of Jerusalem, who were complacent and self-confident in a time of grace national crisis.” “Isaiah 32:9-14 “9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, And hear my voice; Give ear to my word, You complacent daughters. 10 Within a year and a few days You will be troubled, O complacent daughters; For the vintage is ended, And the fruit gathering will not come. 11  Tremble, you women who are at ease; Be troubled, you complacent daughters; Strip, undress and put sackcloth on your waist, 12  Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine, 13  For the land of my people in which thorns and briars shall come up; Yea, for all the joyful houses and for the jubilant city. 14 Because the palace has been abandoned, the populated city forsaken. Hill and watch-tower have become caves forever, A delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks.”  This prophecy took place in 702 and in 701 Sennacherib’s Assyrian army invaded Judah and devastated the land.  Isaiah tells these women that in a little over a year (NIV) they would not be living like they were when it was given, and that is what happened, for they not only did not have the luxurious things, but the necessities were mostly gone too.  We will some more of this when we get to chapter 37 of Isaiah.

“15 Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fertile field, And the fertile field is considered as a forest. 16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness And righteousness will abide in the fertile field. 17 And the work of righteousness will be peace, And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. 18 Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places; 19 And it will hail when the forest comes down, And the city will be utterly laid low. 20 How blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters, Who let out freely the ox and the donkey.”  (Isaiah 32:15-20)

These verses are another example of the prophet jumping from one time period to another, for he was talking about their current situation in verses 9-14, and now once again he jumps back to the kingdom age, for none of the things described in verses 15-20 have happened in Jerusalem since these words were written.  These things will not happen “Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high” is the way verse 15 describes these events.  Joel also wrote similar things in Jowl 2:28-32 “"It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.  29 “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. 30 “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke. 31 “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. 32  "And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the LORD has said, Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.’”  Zechariah 12:10 says “"I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.”  We also want to look at Ezekiel 36:26-27 “26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”  We will see during the Kingdom Age that the land will be so productive that the desert will be just like a fruitful field, and then the fruitful fields will be like a forest.  There will be no fear of enemies in that day for the Lord will protect them from any enemies, and sin will be dealt with immediately during that time.

The children of Israel, and in this case Judah could have enjoyed peace and security, but they chose to trust in the nation of Egypt and not in the Lord, and there is a lesson for us to learn from the mistakes they made.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Trust in the Lord and the Word of the Lord and do not trust in other things that are vain and will eventually fade away.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to trust the Lord to prepare my heart for my meeting with a special person that I have not seen in 38 years, but will see tomorrow.

Memory verses for the week:  Review of 2 Peter 1:1-4

1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, but the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:  2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
