The Lord Appeals to Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:15-24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/14/2013 8:22 AM

My Worship Time                                                              Focus:  The Lord Appeals to Jerusalem

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Isaiah 19:15-24

Message of the verses:  “15 Woe to those who deeply hide their plans from the LORD, And whose deeds are done in a dark place, And they say, "Who sees us?" or "Who knows us?" 16 You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, "He did not make me"; Or what is formed say to him who formed it, "He has no understanding"?

“17 Is it not yet just a little while Before Lebanon will be turned into a fertile field, And the fertile field will be considered as a forest? 18 On that day the deaf will hear words of a book, And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see. 19 The afflicted also will increase their gladness in the LORD, And the needy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 20  For the ruthless will come to an end and the scorner will be finished, Indeed all who are intent on doing evil will be cut off; 21  Who cause a person to be indicted by a word, And ensnare him who adjudicates at the gate, And defraud the one in the right with meaningless arguments. 22 Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: "Jacob shall not now be ashamed, nor shall his face now turn pale; 23 But when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst, They will sanctify My name; Indeed, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob And will stand in awe of the God of Israel. 24 “Those who err in mind will know the truth, And those who criticize will accept instruction.”

We are looking at the third “woe” in this section of Isaiah (Chapters 28-31).

This section of Scripture has two part to it, but they do blend together.  In verses 15-16 we see that the political rulers in Judah have a problem in trusting the Lord, but would rather trust in other countries, like Egypt to help them in their troubles with Assyria.  Verse 16 is telling us that these men were trying to tell God what to do, as the clay was telling its maker how it wanted to be formed.  The Apostle Paul along with the prophet Jeremiah say this same thing, along with Isaiah who will bring this point up two more times in his writings.

Verses 17-24 speak of the Kingdom of our Lord and how things will be much better, so much better, and Isaiah is trying to tell them of their future, but they would not listen to him.  God is in control, and as we look around at our world today we as believers have to understand this truth.  There is much turmoil going on in this world today, especially in the Middle East.  My son while visiting me the other day told me that he heard on the radio, a Christian station we listen to, that there are actually crucifixions going on in Syria, as believers are being crucified for the cause of Christ.  I checked this out on the internet and found it to be true in both Syria and also in Egypt.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I know in my heart that God is in control, but there are times when I see the awful things going on around the world and in our country that I am angered at these terrible things.  I desire to trust the Lord fully in all that is going on, knowing that He is the Alpha and Omega, knows and controls the beginning to the end.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Trust the Lord in all things.

Memory verses for the week:  Review of 2 Peter 1:1-3

1 Simon Peter, bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:  2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
