SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7/17/2014

My Worship Time Focus: God’s Word Protected PT-4
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Jeremiah
36:27-32
Message of the
verses: This will be the last SD
from this second main point from Dr. Wiersbe’s commentary on Jeremiah from the
tenth chapter of his commentary.
God Preserves His Word (Jeremiah 36:27-32): “27 Then the word of the LORD came to
Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch had
written at the dictation of Jeremiah, saying, 28 “Take again another scroll and
write on it all the former
words that were on the first scroll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.
29 "And concerning Jehoiakim king
of Judah you shall say, ’Thus says the LORD, "You have burned this scroll,
saying, ’Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly
come and destroy this land, and will make man and beast to cease from
it?’" 30 ’Therefore
thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah, "He shall have no
one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the
heat of the day and the frost of the night. 31
"I will also punish him and his descendants and his servants for
their iniquity, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and
the men of Judah all the calamity that I have declared to them-but they did not
listen."’" 32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch
the son of Neriah, the scribe, and he wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah
all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire;
and many similar words
were added to them.”
What we see in this section of God’s Word that was
written by Jeremiah makes me think of a saying that seems to go along with it
and that saying is “what goes around comes around.” Now I am not saying that to say that God is vindictive,
but to say that God is just and God hates sin and so He had to punish Jehoiakim
for destroying His Word. There are many
people in our world today that have done similar things with God’s Word, but as
of yet maybe have not been punished for this act against the Lord. Some may wonder why this is so. I listened to a sermon a while back by John
MacArthur who seemed to explain why this is true and he stated in that sermon
that in the OT people seemed to be punished for their sins right away, but in
the NT times God does not punish people right away for their sins and therefore
many people think that God is not watching, or maybe is not in control, or
maybe does not care. All of these are
wrong, and the truth is that one day all people will be punished for all the
sins that they have committed unless they have put their faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ for salvation, for He paid the price for their sins as God the
Father took out His wrath upon His One and only Son while He hung on the cross
when the world went dark so no one could see His wrath being poured out on His
Son. So people have a choice and that
choice is that they can pay for their own sins or they can trust the Lord Jesus
who paid for their sins.
Dr. Wiersbe writes on this section about Jehoiakim “The
same God who gives the Word has the power to protect and preserve the
Word. The king had tried to destroy the
Word, but the Word destroyed him!” As I
stated the Word can destroy us or the Word can be used by the Holy Spirit to
open our eyes so that we can be saved.
God told Jeremiah to write the words that he had written
before on another scroll which he did and he also added words to this
scroll. The words he added told of what
was going to happen to the king and his family and they came true. The kings son Jehoiachin succeeded him and
only reigned for three months and then the his uncle took over as king whose name
was Zedekiah. Dr. Wiersbe concludes “If
the king and his flattering, servile officers had only feared the Word and obeyed
it, they would have saved their nation suffering and ruin, but thy preferred to
go their own way and ignore God’s voice.”
Spiritual meaning
for my life today: Just because I am
a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ does not mean that I do not have to obey
His Word for I do have to obey His Word and when I fail to do so I need to
confess my sins to Him for He is just and will forgive my sins, and for this I
am thankful.
My Steps of Faith for Today: Obey the Word of the Lord.
Memory verse for the
week: Colossians 3:1.
1 Therefore if you have
been raised up with Christ Jesus, keep seeking the things above, where Christ
is, seated at the right hand of God.
Answer to yesterday’s Bible
question: “Suddenly.”
Today’s Bible
question: “Who said ‘Behold, I see the
heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God’?”
Answer in our next SD.
