The Glorious King (Joel 3:21b)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/16/2015 8:32 PM

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  The Glorious King

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Joel 3:21b

Message of the verses:  “For the LORD dwells in Zion.”

This statement is a far cry from the way that Joel began this book when he was talking about the locusts destroying Judah, but now he ends with the statement that the Lord dwells in Zion.  When we studied the book of Ezekiel earlier this year we learned that the glory of the Lord would leave the temple, the temple that God was about to destroy because of the sinfulness of the Jewish people, and then later on in chapter 43:1-5 we read “1 Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing toward the east; 2 and behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the east. And His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory. 3 And it was like the appearance of the vision which I saw, like the vision which I saw when He came to destroy the city. And the visions were like the vision which I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell on my face. 4 And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the east. 5 And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.”  I believe that both this statement from Ezekiel and the one we are looking at in Joel will happen during the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ.  We also read from Ezekiel 48:30-35 we read of the dimensions of the city of Jerusalem during the Millennial reign of Christ and the last words that Ezekiel writes in his book are “and the name of the city from that day shall be, ’The LORD is there.’"”  That name is “Jehovah Shammah-the Lord is there.”

Dr. Wiersbe concludes his commentary on this last section of Joel by writing: “May we never lose the wonder of His glorious kingdom!  ‘The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign for ever and ever’ (Rev. 11:15).

            “Thy kingdom come!”  (Matthew 6:10).

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”  (Revelation 22:20).

We have looked at the closing verse in Joel, and also in both Ezekiel and Revelation, and they all come together with the theme of “A Glorious King.”

Our next book to look at will be the book of Amos and I look forward to begin our study in that Minor Prophet.
