Obstinacy (The Drought) (Amos 4:7-8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/15/2015 9:50 PM

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Obstinacy (Drought)

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Amos 4:7-8

Message of the verses:  “7 “Furthermore, I withheld the rain from you While there were still three months until harvest. Then I would send rain on one city And on another city I would not send rain; One part would be rained on, While the part not rained on would dry up. 8 “So two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink water, But would not be satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me," declares the LORD.”

I want to begin by looking at a part of the covenant that God had with Israel that has to do with the rain coming for them.  First we will look at Leviticus 26:18-20 “18  ’If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 ’I will also break down your pride of power; I will also make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 ’Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.”  Next we will look at Deuteronomy 11:16-17 “16 “Beware that your hearts are not deceived, and that you do not turn away and serve other gods and worship them. 17 “Or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the ground will not yield its fruit; and you will perish quickly from the good land which the LORD is giving you.  Next we will look at Deuteronomy 28:23-24 “23 “The heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron. 24 “The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.”  Now these are the verses that the children of Israel should have looked at when things started to go bad for them so that they could take inventory of how they were worshiping and serving the Lord, but they did not.  Still the Lord was actually acting in mercy towards them as He withheld the rains from some of them and not all of them, but this was still an act of mercy in two ways, giving them some water, and keeping the promises He made with them in order to wake them up but we read from verse eight “Yet you have not returned to Me.”

We will got through these seven categories that fall under the main heading of Obstinacy a bit slowly, but we may at times look at more than one of them in our journey through the book of Amos.
