The Assassination Plotted (Acts 25:1-5)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/6/2018 9:56 AM

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  “The Assassination Plotted”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                        Reference:  Acts 25:1-5

Message of the verses:  1 Festus then, having arrived in the province, three days later went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea. 2 And the chief priests and the leading men of the Jews brought charges against Paul, and they were urging him, 3

requesting a concession against Paul, that he might have him brought to Jerusalem (at the same time, setting an ambush to kill him on the way). 4 Festus then answered that Paul was being kept in custody at Caesarea and that he himself was about to leave shortly. 5 “Therefore," he said, "let the influential men among you go there with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let them prosecute him."”

Felix let a mess, and so a new governor was appointed, Festus who had to come in and try and fix the mess that Felix left.  The Jews hated Rome, and even though a new governor was appointed this problem would not be fixed as in a few years the Jews would come out against Rome and the Romans would eventually destroy Jerusalem and the temple similarly as the Babylonians did 656 years earlier in 586 B. C.

Felix moved slowly with Paul’s case, putting it aside as he wanted money from Paul, and also he wanted to listen to what Paul was telling him about the Lord Jesus Christ.  Festus on the other hand was moving faster a mere three days after arriving in Judah “he went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.”  He wanted to meet with the Jewish leaders and of course Paul’s case came up.  The Jews would give him much trouble as they would lie to him as they did to Felix, desiring to have Paul executed.

The Jewish leaders had a plan, and that plan was to have Festus bring Paul up to Jerusalem and then on the way, just like they wanted to do before they would ambush Paul and kill him on the way.  Although Paul’s nephew was not involved in this through the providence of God, Festus must have seen through this scheme of theirs and would not succumb to their wishes.

As I stated in our last SD I see some things in our countries life today that are similar to what the Jews were trying to do to Paul.  There was a witch hunt then just as there is one today, and both are against innocence people.  I have stated on different occasions that I have two things to say about the left, and that is I have both good news and bad news for them.  The good news is that they will eventually win, and the bad news is they will eventually win.

Festus, not wanting to move Paul said that he wanted some influential men from the Jews to come to Caesarea and bring their charges against Paul.

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question:  “Badger’s skins” (Exodus 36:19).

Today’s Bible question:  “What groans and travails in pain?”

Answer in our next SD.
