PT-2 "The Danger of False Righteousness" (Matt. 6:1)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/11/2020 10:06 AM

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  PT-2 “The Danger of False Righteousness”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Matthew 6:1

Message of the verse:  1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.”

We continue to write about hypocrisy in this SD as it is never treated lightly in the Scriptures.  Let us look at what the prophet Amos said in 5:21-24 “21 "I hate, I reject your festivals, Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies. 22  "Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings. 23 “Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. 24 “But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”  We can see here that God was not pleased with the things that they were doing, as they were only doing them to kind of check things off of a list, as their hearts were not really in it and God knew this and that is why Amos gave this message to them, and to us also.  It is hard sometimes to keep your heart in your worship as you fall into things like the Pharisees did and could be seen in the pages of the New Testament, things that Jesus would come down hard on them calling them hypocrites on many occasions.  It is my desire not to do things to just check them off of a list, even though there are things that I try and doe each day as I desire to learn from the Lord.  It is my desire never to be like the Pharisees were like, as what I do I want it to bring glory to the Lord.

Now outside of idolatry, we find that the greatest sin in Judah and also Israel was hypocritical religion.  I have to say that I believe that pride had a lot to do with that as the Pharisees were a very proud lot.  Now we read in the OT that the very reason that both Israel and Judah were concurred was because of the sin of idolatry.  Joshua warned them not to get involved with those who were still in the land, but to conquer them so that they would not turn to the worship of idols that they worshiped, but they did not listen.  In the same way after one becomes a believer they have to fight against the sins that they struggle with and conquer them through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Caleb conquered the evil people in the land that was given to him by the Lord and in the same way we must conquer the sins that cause us to fall out of fellowship with the Lord through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Now because of this being Sunday I have to make this a very short SD, but I believe that there are things in this that I need to focus on even though it is short.
