SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/2/2021 10:45 AM
My Worship Time Focus:
The “Character” of Judas
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Matthew
10:4b
Message of the
verse: “and
Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him.”
I
think that it is possible that we as believers do not think that Judas was
acceptable to the rest of the disciples, but that is not actually true. It is hard to understand what is going on
inside a person as at times his outside actions do not reflect what is going on
inside, and this certainly was the case with Judas. Even when the Lord dismissed Judas at the
Last Supper the others thought that he was going out to buy supplies for them,
and before that when Jesus said that there was a “trader” among them they did
not have any idea it was Judas, so he covered his plan “successfully,” that is
he fulfilled in his heart what God planned to happen to our Lord. One more thing I want to point out when Jesus
stated that one would deny Him and we get the disciples response in Matthew
26:22 “Being deeply grieved, they each
one began to say to Him, "Surely not I, Lord?’” However after they had gotten over this fact
that one of them would betray Him they quickly began to argue which would be
the greatest “23 And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them
it might be who was going to do this thing. 24 And there arose also a dispute among them as
to which one of them was regarded to be greatest” Luke 22:23-24). The following comes from John’s gospel “25 He,
leaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, said to Him, "Lord, who is it?" 26
Jesus then *answered, "That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and
give it to him." So when He had dipped the morsel, He *took and *gave it
to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.”
Next we look at verses 27-28 showing what Jesus said to Judas, but we
still get no reply from Judas “27 After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore
Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly." 28 Now no one of those
reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.” Finally the response of the other disciples “29
For some were supposing, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying
to him, "Buy the things we have need of for the feast"; or else, that
he should give something to the poor. 30 So after receiving the morsel he went
out immediately; and it
was night.” Think about the two
highlighted parts of these two verses.
The
following song has caused me to think about Judas and also about me. These words from Michael Card’s song along
with the youtube address are here for reflection. Looks like we will still be looking at his
character in our next SD.

Traitors Look lyrics
Michael Card
How did it feel to take the place
Of honor at the meal
To take the sup from His own hand
A prophesy to seal
Was it because He washed your feet
That you sold Him as a slave
The Son of Man, the Lamb of God
Who'd only come to save
The silver that they paid to you
From out their precious till
Was meant to buy a spotless lamb
A sacrifice to kill
How heavy was the money bag
That couldn't set you free
It became a heavy millstone
As you fell into the sea
Now Judas don't you come too close
I fear that I might see
That traitor's look upon your face
Might look too much like me
Cause just like you I've sold the Lord
And often for much less
And like a retched traitor
I betrayed Him with a kiss

Spiritual meaning for my life today: I know that no one can ever do exactly what
Judas did in betraying Jesus, but I also know that I agree with the song lyrics
“Cause just like you I’ve sold the Lord and often for much less.”
My Steps of Faith for Today: I certainly do not want to betray the Lord,
but to live my life to glorify Him.
