PT-4 “Scripture Provides Instruction For Salvation” (2 Tim. 3:15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 5/22/2025 9:31 AM

My Worship Time                             Focus:  PT-4 “Scripture Provides Instruction For Salvation”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                   Reference:  2 Timothy 3:15

Message of the verse:  “and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

I continue looking at the 9th chapter of John MacArthur’s commentary on 2 Timothy.  He entitles this ninth chapter “The Work of the Word” and it covers 2 Timothy 3:15-17.  He writes the following short introduction to these verses:  “No other passage in the New Testament speaks so concisely of the nature and work of God’s Word in salvation and sanctification.  In this text, the spiritually transforming power of divine revelation is delineated.”

This morning is a rather sad day for me as I must go to a funeral of a dear friend, a man that I had the upmost respect for, a true brother in the Lord.  With that said this SD will be shorter than the ones that I have been writing.  I will begin by quoting from John MacArthur’s commentary.

“In the time of Nehemiah a spiritual awakening began in Israel when the people turned to God’s Word for wisdom and spiritual renewal.  Faced with a new awareness of their sin and of the Lord’s holiness, they confessed their sin and sought His forgiveness.  By God’s mercy, they began to worship with divinely cleansed hearts and in genuine reverence and praise.”

We will now look at Nehemiah 8:1-3; 9:2-3; 10:28-29 as these are the verses that MacArthur has in his commentary.

“1 And all the people gathered as one man at the square which was in front of the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses which the LORD had given to Israel. 2 Then Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly of men, women and all who could listen with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month. 3 He read from it before the square which was in front of the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of men and women, those who could understand; and all the people were attentive to the book of the law” (8:1-3).

“2 The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. 3 While they stood in their place, they read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God” (Neh. 9:2-3).

“28 Now the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the law of God, their wives, their sons and their daughters, all those who had knowledge and understanding, 29  are joining with their kinsmen, their nobles, and are taking on themselves a curse and an oath to walk in God’s law, which was given through Moses, God’s servant, and to keep and to observe all the commandments of GOD our Lord, and His ordinances and His statutes” (Neh. 10:28-29).  (All Emphasis Added).
