PT-1 Intro to Jude 4-7

Jude 4-7
Message of the verses: “4 For
certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked
out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into
licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 5 Now I desire
to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving
a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not
believe. 6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their
proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of
the great day, 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since
they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after
strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of
eternal fire.”
John MacArthur entitles this chapter “APOSTATES BE WARNED,” and this evening I just want to begin to look at the
introduction to these verses. We are not
past the introduction, and in that introduction we could see that Jude changed
his mind, or rather the Spirit of God changes his mind from writing about
common salvation to writing about apostates, which he begins in these verses,
and continues through most of the remaining verses with the exception of the
epilogue in verses 24-25.
The
truth is that sound doctrine is under siege, and in fact it always has been,
and the reason is because of our enemy, Satan and his host of demons, but take
courage they will be destroyed, in fact at the end of the Tribulation period
Satan, Antichrist, the false prophet, and all the ungodly hosts of heaven will
be cast into the lake of fire, and then at the end of that 1000 year period
Satan will be let out for a short time to gather unbelievers to fight against
the Lord, but that will not last long, and then back to hell for him, along
with those hosts of evil people he has gathered.
It
is true that the attack on truth is as old as human history, and even though I
don’t often write about political things, the truth is that there is one party
in our country that should be renamed from the democrats to the communist party
as they will never tell you the truth, and so as mentioned it never has
stopped. Like I wrote before it began in
the Garden of Eden, when Satan twisted God’s Word and convinced Eve to disobey
her Creator (Gen. 3:1-6). And ever
since, the father of lies (John 8:44) “"You
are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your
father. He was a murderer
from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth
in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature,
for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Satan has tirelessly
continued his bitter offensive against divine truth, (cf. Acts 20:29-30; Eph.
6:10-18). Satan’s goal is simple, to
resist the advancement of God’s kingdom at any cost. His tactics are stealthy, ad he baits his
victims through deception and distortion.
His strategy is successful among unbelievers, but this can only happen
within God’s sovereign limits. All one
has to do is look at the muddled quagmire of modern religion to understand that
it makes it abundantly clear. I think it
best to say that when God created all of the angels that Satan was the most
beautiful of them all, but then he fell into sin, and to be honest I don’t know
how that happened, for before that there was no sin ever committed. Some that I have read stated that Satan was
somehow connected before the fall to the second person of the Godhead, Jesus
Christ, and so this must have really hurt the Lord when Satan fell. Satan then took a part of the angels that God
had created with him, and I believe the number is one third, and these are the
ones who will go into eternal hell someday.
I
think it best to finish this introduction in tomorrow evening’s SD as there is
still some mover to cover.
