Don't Rob Yourself PT-1 (Eccl. 5:10-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 5/4/2013 8:37 AM
My Worship Time                                                                       Focus:  Don’t Rob Yourself PT-1
Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Eccl. 5:10-20
Message of the verses:  We begin the last section of Eccl. 5 in today’s SD.  “Solomon issues three warnings that relate to the values of life.”  This is the third warning.
A few weeks ago when we were studying the second chapter of Ecclesiastes and in particular verses two through eleven we say that Solomon spoke about wealth in that section, and he will repeat some of these things here, but will add some more things.  What he will add is that people hold several myths about wealth.  It is because they hold onto these issues that they rob themselves of blessings that God has for them.  The Bible speaks a lot about money and this is just one of the sections from it that talks about money.
Wealth Brings Satisfaction (v 10):  “10  He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.”
Have you ever heard a person say the following “Well, money may not be the number one thing in life, but it’s way ahead of whatever is number two!”  Many people feel this way and the Bible teaches us that this is not the right attitude that we should have about money.  Many unbelievers have faith in money, faith that it will do whatever they want to have done, and this is wrong, for it can be gone in a heartbeat.  It is best to put one’s faith the person of Jesus Christ and the salvation that He has provided for that will never change, but someday this entire universe, including planet earth will be burned with fire and that means all the money will also go up in smoke, but the Lord will still be there along with all those who have put their faith in Him.
Jesus said the following in Luke 12:15 “Then He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.’”  Paul writes to Timothy something that has been misquoted many times, but this is what he really wrote, “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
Money solves every problem )v 11):  “11  When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on?”  “11  The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth-except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!”  (NLT)
I have heard stories about people who have played and won the lottery and all of a sudden that had all kinds of realities show up at their door step to help them spend their money, and most people who win the lottery do not have any idea on how to handle a large sum of money and they think that it will last forever and turn around one day and find out that they are broke, and not only broke, but very unhappy.  More than one winner has stated that they wished they had never bought that ticket in the first place.  John Wesley who was one of the cofounders of the Methodist church said to people “Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”  He practiced this and could have been a wealthy man, but chose instead to give much of his earnings to advance the cause of Jesus Christ.
Lord willing we will look at some more of myths that people have about money in the next SD.
Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I know that God’s Word is a book of balance and as I learn more about money from its page I know that something like what Wesley said and practiced was in balance with the Word of God.
My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to have the right attitude about money, for the Bible says much about it that I can continue to learn about.  I want to learn the truths of money and not just the myths about it.
Memory verses for the week:  Mark 14:38 & 2 Cor. 5:17
38 Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Answer to yesterday’s Bible Question:  “Jesus” Matthew 26:39)
