My Worship Time Focus: PT-1 “Intro
to Eph. 5:15-17”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Eph. 5:15-17
Message of the verses: “15 Therefore be
careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days
are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the
Lord is.”
John
MacArthur entitles his 17th chapter of his commentary on Ephesians “Walking
in Wisdom,” and as we can see it only has three verses in it.
When
we think of how we use the word “fool” in our life these days it is not the way
that the Bible talks about a person who is a fool. I have always thought that the first of
April, “April Fool’s Day” is a good description of a person who does not believe
in God. “The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who
does good” (Ps. 14:1). This verse speaks
of a person who is an atheist who has no room for God and who cares nothing for
God. I am sorry to say that our country,
the United States of America is divided between those who believe in God and
those who don’t, and this is a by-product of evolution.
Every
person who is born is born an enemy of God, separated from God because of their
Adamic sin. These are some verses that
speak to this truth “Romans 5:8, 10; Eph. 2:3; and Col. 1:21.” 1 Corinthians 2:14 tells us “But a natural
man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness
to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.” Let us now look at Romans 1:21-22 “21 For
even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but
they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became
fools.”
There
are many people today who do not believe in the One True God, and yet they have
gods of their own that they do believe in, and this again as we have seen in
some of these verses is foolishness.
John
MacArthur writes “When the fool sets himself up as his own god, he will
naturally ‘mock at sin’ (Prov. 14:9).
Sin is that which is against God, and since the fool does not recognize
God, he does not recognize sin. The
Spiritually self-sufficient fool makes his own rules and justifies his own
behavior, and in doing so he refuses to acknowledge sin and its consequences.” Once again we can draw evolution into this
quote as a reason people do not believe in God for after all if we are just an
accident then why would we be accountable to any God who may have created all
we see.
Another
thing that a fool does is, and he can’t help himself, is spread his own
foolishness. The more he believes his
foolishness the more he will tell others about it. It makes no difference what
his intellectual level, or academic achievements, talents, wealth, or
reputation, the mouth of the natural man can spiritually do nothing but spout
folly as seen in Proverbs 15:2 “The tongue of the wise makes knowledge
acceptable, But the mouth of fools spouts folly.”
We
will continue our discussion, Lord willing, on fools in our next SD, and then
we will begin to talk about wisdom, a much more pleasant subject.

humility.” (This passage truly speaks to
my heart.)
