PT-1 "The Interpretation of the Parable of the Wheat and Tares" (Matt. 13:34-43)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/17/2022 8:07 AM

My Worship Time         Focus:  PT-1 “The Interpretation of the Parable of the Wheat and Tares”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Matthew 13:34-43

Message of the verses:  34 All these things Jesus spoke to the multitudes in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable, 35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD." 36 Then He left the multitudes, and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 37 And He answered and said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. 40 “Therefore just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. 41 "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 "Then THERIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

The first thing that I have to say is that this interpretation of this parable will take us a while to get through, but in the end I think it will be a blessing to all of us.

We can see from the beginning of this section that the speaking in parables by our Lord was not something that was an afterthought, but Matthew shows us that it was prophesized in God’s Word hundreds of years ago.  We see that to the multitudes that Jesus did not speak without a parable, and then Matthew says so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled.

MacArthur explains “Asaph, a prophet and seer (2 Chron. 29:30), wrote Psalm 78, from which Matthew here quotes:  I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.  The rejection of His messiahship did not catch the Lord by surprise, and the postponement of the kingdom was not a backup plan.  The things hidden since the foundation of the world pertained to ‘the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,’ which Jesus explained to His disciples but not the unbelieving multitudes and religious leaders (Matt. 13:11-16).  To those who rejected Him, He spoke ‘in parables; because while seeing they [did] not see, and while hearing they [did] not hear, nor [did] they understand (v. 13).  God made no alteration of His plan of redemption.  Everything was exactly on schedule and according to the predictions of His Word.”  Now I have mentioned in earlier SD’s that as we read through the different gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke we will see that there came a time when the Jews actually turned their backs on our Lord, and after seeing many, many miracles, which they knew were legitimate they then said that Jesus was doing these in the power of Satan, and that marked the end of Jesus’ teaching like He did at the beginning of His ministry.  We have also talked about the word mystery and have stated that this word is speaking of something that was hid in the past but is now revealed.  The church is an example of this along with what Paul writes about the rapture, which is the event that will end the church, and the church age by taking all who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior during the church age to be with Him in the air and then taken to heaven.  Another thing to remember is that the church is what is called a part of the kingdom with our King in heaven ruling.

Jesus had just finished telling the parables of the mustard seed, and the leaven and then Matthew tells us that He left the multitudes, and went back into the house where He had been staying as seen in 13:1.  Then as soon as they were all inside, His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”  With that we will end this first SD on this great amount of verses that we will be looking at to help us understand this parable.

Today is Easter and what I have to say is “He Has Risen” and you finish that statement.
