PT-1 "Intro to Matthew 19:1-12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 2/5/2023 8:05 AM

My Worship Time                                                           Focus:  PT-1 “Intro to Matthew 19:1-12”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                      Reference:  Matt. 19:1-12

Message of the verses:  1 And it came about that when Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee, and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; 2  and great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.

3 And some Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?" 4 And He answered and said, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, 5  and said, ‘FOR THIS CAUSE A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, AND SHALL CLEAVE TO HIS WIFE; AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? 6 “Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." 7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?" 8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 “And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." 10 The disciples said to Him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry." 11 But He said to them, "Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 “For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.’

In his commentary John MacArthur quotes a person who worked for a national news magazine asking the question “Is there no one in our country who has not known anyone who has not be effected by a divorce.   There are millions of divorces in our country each year and being a Christian does not mean you are not affected by divorce, for those numbers are similar to people getting divorced who are not believers.  With this being said divorce is a tragedy in our country, and I think many other countries as well.

In our country in the past it was harder to get a divorce, but this is not the case at this time as in many states there are what is called no fault divorces, making it easier to get a divorce.  In the past people who were catholic were not to get a divorce, but even that has changed.

I can say that things have even gotten worse off since MacArthur’s commentary was written as now we have seemingly gone to the bottom of  what Paul wrote in Romans 1:19-32 which I will quote at this time.

19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26  For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28  And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29  being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31  without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Italics added)

Please notice the highlighted portions of these verses and then think about how it is in our country at this time, and then pray for revival.  Lord willing we will talk more about the subject of divorce in our next SD.
