EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/9/2024 7:25 PM
My Worship Time Focus:
PT-2 “Because of What the World Does”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 1 John 2:16
Message of the
verse: “For
all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and
the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.”
I want to continue to talk about sin as I begin this
SD this evening. Human beings cannot
cure sin as sin is also humanly incurable.
If we could cure it then we would not have needed for Christ to come to
earth to die for us so that our sins can be forgiven. Let us look at a few verses to show us that
we as sinners have no capacity in and of ourselves to remedy our sin.
“7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God;
for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8
and those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom. 8:7-8).
“But a natural man does not accept
the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot
understand them, because they are spiritually appraised” (1 Cor. 2:14).
“And you were dead in your
trespasses and sins,” (Eph. 2:1).
Now
we will look at what the prophet Isaiah described about Israel’s incurably
sinful condition in Isaiah 1:4-6:
“4 Alas, sinful nation, People weighed down
with iniquity, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They have
abandoned the LORD, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have turned
away from Him. 5 Where will you be stricken again, As you continue in your
rebellion? The whole head is sick And the whole heart is faint. 6 From the sole
of the foot even to the head There is nothing sound in it, Only bruises,
welts and raw wounds, Not pressed out or bandaged, Nor softened with oil.
John
MacArthur writes “Sin is like a terminal illness, or hereditary condition,
about which sinners can do nothing in their own strength. God demanded of Israel, ‘Can the Ethiopian
change his skin or the leopard his spots?
Then you also can do good who are accustomed to doing evil’ (Jer. 13:23;
cf. Job 14:4; Matt. 7:16-18).
“Finally sin is universal. David wrote, ‘They have all turned aside,
together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one’
(Ps. 14:3; cf. Isa. 53:1-3; Eccl. 7:20; Rom. 3:10-12; 5:12). Thus all people, left to their own devices,
choose to sin:
‘19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the
world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were
evil. 20 "For everyone who does
evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds
will be exposed (John 3:19-20; cf. Ps. 7:14; Prov. 4:16; Isa. 5:18; Jer.
9:5).’”
Lord willing we will continue to look at the subject
of sin in my next SD.
