EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/6/2024 12:02 AM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-2
“Because of Who Believers Are”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 1 John 2:15b
Message of the verse: “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
Notice that this evening Spiritual Diary is actually
a very early morning Spiritual Diary.
Now I want to continue looking at this verse in the same
way that I did in yesterday’s SD, and that means that I will quote from John
MacArthur’s commentary on this verse and will also quote the verses that he
brings up in his commentary.
“Nonetheless, the basic identity of believers as God’s
children does not make the immune to the world’s allure. Because they are still fallen sinners—though saved
by grace—true followers of Christ are tempted through their remaining flesh by
the world’s behaviors and enterprises.”
Now we will look at some verses that support that statement.
Matthew 26:41 “"Keep watching
and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but
the flesh is weak.’”
1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation
has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will
not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation
will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.”
Ephesians 6:16 “In addition to
all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
James 1:12-14 “12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he
has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the
Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is
tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by
evil, and He Himself does
not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and
enticed by his own lust.”
1 Peter 5:8-9 “8 Be of sober spirit, be on the
alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour. 9 But resist him,
firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are
being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.”
“Whether the temptation comes from
worldly priorities, worldly amusements, worldly riches, or worldly lusts,
believers desire to resist the world’s effort to seduce them. As Jesus warned His listeners, ‘No servant
can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or
else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth’ (Luke
16:13).”
Matthew 6:19-21 “19 "Do not store up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and
steal. 20 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither
moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:24 “24 “No one can serve two masters; for either
he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and
despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
Ok
that does it for this SD, and Lord willing tomorrow I will begin to look at “Because
of What The Word Does” from 1 John 2:16.
