PT-1 "Because of Who Believers Are" (1 John 15:b)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/5/2024 4:42 PM

My Worship Time                                                   Focus: PT-1 “Because of Who Believers Are”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                       Reference:  1 John 2:15b

Message of the verse:  “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

I have to say that this will be a very short SD for today, but what I will do is quote the many verses that MacArthur has reference to in this section.  The first thing we want to say is that “because believers are forgiven” and then I will begin to quote verses which support that quote from the beginning of MacArthur’s comments.

Psalm 86:5 “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.”

Psalm 130:3-4 “3 If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.”

Isaiah 1:18 “"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.”

Matthew 26:28 “for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”

Luke 1:77 “To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,”

Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”

Colossians 1:14 “in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Colossians 2:13-14 “13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”

Colossians 3:13 “bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.”

1 John 2:12 “I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake.”

Now I will pick up where I left off with MacArthur’s comments after he gives this list of verses which we just looked at.  “have a true knowledge of God:” (more verses to make this point)

2 Corinthians 2:14 “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.”

2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Ephesians 4:13 “until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.”

Colossians 1:9-10 “9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Now back to the comments from MacArthur who writes “have the Word of God abiding in them:”

Psalm 119:11 “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Now I continue with MacArthur’s comments:  “have overcome Satan”

James 4:7 “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

1 John 4:4 “You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”

Continue with MacArthur’s quote “and have an increasingly intimate relationship with the Father”

1 John 2:12-14 “12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.”

Now continue with MacArthur’s quotation “they cannot love the world.  Anyone who loves the world demonstrates that the love of the Father is not in him.  Like Demas, such spiritual defectors manifest that any previous claim to know and love God was nothing but a lie (2:19).”

Now there is a lot of Scripture to go over and so I think that because there is still more to look at that I will, Lord willing, finish this short section with the Scriptures added in my next SD.
