PT-5 "Consider Your Resources" (2 Tim. 1:7)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/9/2024 10:50 AM

My Worship Time                                                           Focus:  PT-5 “Consider Your Resources”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                     Reference:  2 Timothy 1:7

Message of the verse:  “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline” (NASB 95).  For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (AKJV).

I wish to explain why this SD will be very short and that is because of when I do my Spiritual Diaries on Sunday mornings I have to cut them short because of the fact that I teach a Sunday school class on Sunday mornings.

I wish to complete this section about considering your resources in this SD this morning as I think that although it took a while to get through this section it was worth looking at.  I guess that because I read and listen to many things from John MacArthur that I tend to take my time in going over the different Scriptures that I am looking at.  I realize that I will never get all there is out of a verse or section of verses, but nevertheless I do like to take my time in order to get out what the Lord is teaching me.  A person can be diligent in studying the Scriptures and take a very long time in studying a certain verse or section and then perhaps in a year of two or maybe more will come back to that section of verses and the Lord will show you something that you did not see the first time, and perhaps the reason is that God did not want you to see it the first time, but now He shows you what it is that He wants you to see now.

We have been talking about different endowments in our study of this verse, a verse that has meant a lot to me for a long time and the reason is that some of the things that were going on with Timothy, that is being timid are things that have always gone on with me, and perhaps that is why I enjoy studying Paul’s letters to Timothy.  Now “when those endowments are all present, marvelous results occur” writes John MacArthur.  “No better statement affirming this reality can be found than in Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, to whom he said,

For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.  Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen. (Eph 3:14-21; emphasis added)

I believe that these verses are very good verses to take care of the problems that were going on with Timothy and are going on with me.  It is all about trusting the Lord to give me the strength to do the things that in eternity past has called me to do.  Trust the Lord can be hard at times in your life when things are not going the way that you want them to go, but trusting the Lord is the most important thing to do when things are not going the way you want them to go even though it is difficult.

Lord willing we will begin to look at “Accept Your Suffering” in my next SD what comes from 2 Timothy 1:8a “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me His prisoner; but join with me in suffering for the gospel.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I am thankful that the Lord has caused me to begin my study of 2 Timothy as I was not really sure what book of the Bible to study after spending five years in studying Matthew.  I really did not have to think about that problem for a long time, but God certainly has caused me to look at 2 Timothy and for that I am thankful.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I trust the Lord to get me through this difficult Spiritual time that I am going through and I believe that this letter of 2 Timothy will be a great help to get through this prolonged difficult time that I am going through.
