Christ the Warrior (Psalm 45:3-7a)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                     Focus:  Christ the Warrior

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                      Reference:  Psalm 45:

Message of the verses:  We began to look at Psalm 45 in yesterday’s SD, which is a Messianic psalm and just for a bit of review I want to again quote what Dr. Wiersbe wrote at the end of his introduction:  “The writer presents four pictures of our Lord and in so doing also described His bride.”  We look at the first picture yesterday and will move on to the second and see how far we can get today.

The Victorious Warrior (vv. 3-5):  “3  Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, In Your splendor and Your majesty! 4  And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things. 5  Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.”

We see in verse three something that is not evident as much as it should be in the Church today, and that is the militant side of the Christian faith, so let us look back at Genesis 3:15 in order to see where this all started:  “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.’”  As soon as man fell and sin entered into the universe we see God begin to fight against the devil as stated in this verse from Genesis.  We must remember that the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world is also the Lion of the tribe of Judah:  “and one of the elders *said to me, "Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals’ (Rev. 5:5).”  Now let us look at another reason that Jesus suffered and died on the cross:  “13 ¶  You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14  He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15  In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross (Col. 2:13-15 NLT).”  When you look at Genesis 3:15 and Col. 2:15 you see the promise and the fulfillment of the promise, and it was done by the Lion of the tribe of Judah.  That is not all for when we look at Revelations 19:11 and following we will find that Jesus Christ is going to return to the earth and destroy all of His enemies by putting the antichrist, the false prophet into hell and the bind Satan for 1000 years as He rules from David’s throne in Jerusalem.  We see in these verses a side of our Lord that people sometimes have a hard time looking at, but we must remember that not only is God love, but He is just also.  We also see the truth of Psalm 45:4b in the verses I have quoted for “His right hand will accomplish awesome things.”

As believers in Jesus Christ we do not fight with human weapons, but with spiritual weapons.  “3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4  for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses (2Cor. 10:3-4).”  Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12; Rev. 1:16 and 19:15 show that believers use the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God as our weapon and this is exactly what Jesus used against Satan in His temptation (Matt. 4 & Luke 4, also Mark 1).

We also see in verse four that Jesus is fighting on behalf of “truth and meekness and righteousness.  Dr. Wiersbe says “and it is difficult to believe that anyone would want to oppose that kind of war.  As God’s people share His love, serve others, and declare the Word, they are ‘waging peace’ and seeking to reconcile men and women with God (2Cor. 5:14-21).  The Father has promised to give His Son the nations of the earth for His inheritance (Ps. 2:8-9), and He will keep His promise.”

The Righteous King (vv. 6-7a):  “6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. 7 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.”

In these verse we see the deity of Jesus Christ, for the psalmist is speaking of Jesus Christ when he writes “Your throne, O God.”  Some have tried to say that Jesus Christ is not God, but when one searches the Scripture they will find that Jesus Christ in indeed the second person of the godhead, and that He is indeed God.  8  Philip *said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." 9  Jesus *said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ’Show us the Father’ (John 14:8-9).”  There are many other verses, especially in John’s Gospel that show this truth and all one has to do is think of why it was that Jesus was crucified, and remember that it was that He claimed to be God come in the flesh and that is exactly who He was and is.

When we think about what the Kingdom of God is we have to realize that there are three parts to the kingdom of God, and the first part is what we call the Church Age where Jesus rules from heaven sitting at the right  hand of God and then He will come to earth to rule here on earth which is what has been promised by God to the Jews and this is called the millennial kingdom or the 1000 year rule of Christ on earth as seen in Revelations, and then we will have the eternal kingdom, which is also described in Revelations.  Jesus is ruling and will rule in all of the aspects of the Kingdom of God for that is what God promised Him 1 ¶  «A Psalm of David.» The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet." 2  The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in the midst of Your enemies’ (Psalm 110:102)”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The verses that came from Colossians 2 are what I am thinking about today as I said fulfills what God promised in Genesis 3:15, but just thinking about all it involved for me to become a believer in Jesus Christ is actually so great and so wonderful that it is hard to take it all in.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Praise the Lord for such a great salvation that He has provided for me.

2.       Continue to seek to learn contentment as I am having some difficult lessons with my quest to be content.
