Remember God's Great Works (Ps. 111:2-6)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/5/2012 8:27:36 AM

My Worship Time                                                                     Focus:  Psalm 111 PT-2)

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                      Reference:  Psalm 111:2-6

Message of the verse:  In Today’s SD we will continue to look at the 111th Psalm.

Remember God’s Great Works (vv. 2-6):  2  Great are the works of the LORD; They are studied by all who delight in them. 3  Splendid and majestic is His work, And His righteousness endures forever. 4  He has made His wonders to be remembered; The LORD is gracious and compassionate. 5  He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever. 6   He has made known to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations.”

I have written about how important a study of God’s attributes is for all who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and in this section an even beyond this section we see some of the attributes of our great God.  Dr. Wiersbe writes, “His works reveal His attributes, for like Him they are great (v.2), glorious, majestic and righteous (v. 3), wonderful, gracious and compassionate (v. 4), powerful (v.6), faithful, just and trustworthy (v. 7), and holy and awesome (v.9).  Who could not trust a god with that kind of character!”  This last statement is one of the very best reasons to study the attributes of God, for by studying them we will begin to know God better and by knowing Him better we will then begin to trust Him more and more.

At the beginning of His commentary Dr. Wiersbe writes the following:  “God’s people do not live in the past, but they know how to use the past to give them encouragement in the present and hope for the future.”  Sometimes it is easy to live in the past or perhaps to live in the future because of a great hope, and neither of these are wrong, but we have to remember that we are to live in the present and be aided by what we have learned in the past and what we hope for in the future, and we must remember that our hope as believers is certain.

Verse two has been an encouragement to me as I read it, for in it we see that the Lord’s works are great, but we also see that those who study about these works will delight in them.  This is one of the joys of having a regular time in the study and reading of God’s Word, for by doing this I can delight in His wonderful works, and be encouraged by them.

Israel has had a wonderful story, from their miraculous beginning with the birth of Isaac to the Exodus, and then to the conquering of the Promised Land, to the story of David and God’s covenant with him, and even to the dispersion of Israel to Babylon where we know that God did not give up on them, but used this to bring about a revival in them, and eventually bring about the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ as promised by God from as far back as Genesis 3:15.  When Jesus Christ came to earth Israel was in bad shape spiritually, and because of this He chose twelve men and later on the Apostle Paul to begin the age of the Church, but as Paul writes in Romans 9-11 God is not done with Israel yet for all of the promises given to Israel by God are still going to be fulfilled in the future, promises like a Kingdom on earth which will last for 1000 years where Jesus Christ will rule and reign.  Like Paul states Israel has been set aside, but I truly believe that because of the rebirth of the state of Israel on May 14, 1948 that it will not be long until the Church will be removed in the “rapture” and then God will again begin to work with the nation of Israel, for when we study the book of Daniel in the ninth chapter we will see that there are seven years left on a wonderful promise that God gave to Daniel almost 2500 years ago.  A. T. Pierson used to say “History is His Story,” and this is a true statement.

One more thing and it comes in verse four where we see the word “remember” and Dr. Wiersbe points out that this word is “memorial.”  “We read it, ‘He has caused His wonders to be a memorial,’ In fact; Israel itself is a memorial to the power and grace of God.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The verses in this section have been a wonderful reminder to me, and also a wonderful encouragement to me to continue to study the Word of God, and also to remember it in the form of continuing to memorize His Word, to hide it in my heart.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Abide in or remain in the Vine, to study His Word, so that in these two activities I can receive my marching orders from the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:  2Peter 1:1-9

1.       Simon Peter, a bond-servant, and apostle of Jesus Christ

To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our

God and Savior, Jesus Christ; 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promise, so that by them you can become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

5 Now by this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge 6 and in your knowledge self-control, and in your self-control perseverance, and in your perseverance godliness, 7 and in your godliness brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.  8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
