Complete Forgiveness
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Colossians
2:13-14
Message of the
verses: “13 When you were dead in
your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive
together with Him, having
forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the
certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us;
and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
I have a story to tell as we think about what complete
forgiveness is all about. The story is
about a lady who goes to our church and I will do my best to tell her story as
I remember it.
This lady has a burden for the unborn as she and others
she knows will stand out in front of an abortion clinic in a city near us. They do this because they know that abortion
is wrong and from time to time some of the ladies will come and talk to them
which gives them an opportunity to talk to them about the Lord and about the
forgiveness that He offers them.
A few weeks ago there was a lady in a car who stopped to
talk to this lady asking her why she does what she does. The lady in the car stopped because she had
had an abortion and felt great guilt about it.
My friend got her phone number and then got an email or text from her
telling her that she wanted to meet with her and talk. They set up a time and to the surprise of my
friend a different woman showed up but she had the same name as the first woman
in the car. My friend gave her a Bible
and showed her that she could be forgiven by the Lord for having an abortion. This lady had never even read a Bible and
knew nothing about forgiveness through Jesus Christ, knew nothing about
complete forgiveness that could only come through His finished word on the
cross. At some time during their talk
this lady broke down as she heard about the gospel and at that moment she
accepted the forgiveness that Christ offers and the complete forgiveness that
only comes through the finished work of Christ on the cross.
I tell this story because it is true, and I tell this
story because I do not know who will read it as the Holy Spirit can take this
around the world and show it to someone who needs to hear it, who is suffering
from guilt, guilt perhaps an abortion or some other sin that is weighing them
down and they need to hear this story of having complete forgiveness. It is my desire to begin looking at this
section from Colossians in my next Spiritual Diary, but for now I pray that the
Spirit of God will take this SD to someone who is in need of reading it.
