SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/20/2021 2:24 PM
My Worship Time Focus: The Power
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
Matt. 8:26b
Message
of the verses: “Then He arose, and
rebuked the winds and the sea; and it became perfectly calm.”
For those of us who are believers
and have read over this section many times perhaps it has become too blasé to
us and because of this we miss understanding exactly what kind of power it took
for Jesus to do what He did in this half verse.
We just can’t take things for granted and become to laid back in our
spirituality which is what I believe many, especially in this country are doing
and then this causes us to miss out on the things of God. There is another point that I want to make
here and that is who or better what it was that was obeying the Lord. Jesus spoke and the winds and the sea obeyed
Him. It seems that the winds and the
waves know who it is that was telling them to be still. I am not saying that they are alive like
people are but they still obeyed Him as He is in control of all things because
He created all things. It seems the only
things that don’t obey Him are people, because people are sinful. My favorite character in the Old Testament is
Balaam’s donkey; you know the one that spoke to Balaam because she was doing what
the Lord wanted her to do, and how about the water that immediately turned into
wine, things that take months to happen, happened in an instant when Jesus
wanted them to because of His power. The
servant’s son who was about to die and was 20 miles away from Jesus and He
spoke, knowing exactly who this boy was and healed him immediately. All of this has to do with power, the power
of God who spoke and the world came into existence immediately. This is the God who is worthy of our worship.
John MacArthur writes concerning
this last half of verse 26: “Jesus ‘arose,
and rebuked the winds and the sea,’ saying, ‘Hush, be still (Mar, 4:39). At the word of the Creator, the storm could
do nothing but become ‘perfectly calm.’
The winds stopped, the waves ceased, the air cleared, and the water
became as glass. Storms normally subside
gradually, with winds and waves diminishing little by little until calm is restored. But this storm subsided faster even than it
had come; it came suddenly and ceased instantly. Though small in comparison to hurricanes and
typhoons, that storm on the Sea of Galilee had generated multiplied millions of
units of horsepower. Yet Jesus stopped
it with a word—and easy feat compared to His bringing the entire world into
existence with a word.
“The One who had control over diseases
and demons also had control over nature.
And as Matthew would proceed to show, He also had power to forgive sins
and to raise the dead.”
Spiritual
meaning for my life today: One of
the attributes of God is that He is all powerful and that surely showed up
here.
My Steps of Faith For Today: I am
trusting the Lord to give me the right words to give to those who are praying
for revival tomorrow evening.
