SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/18/2021 9:15 AM
My Worship Time
Focus: Intro to
Matthew 11:25-30
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
Matthew 11:25-30
Message of the verses: “25 At that time
Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have
hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them
to infants. 26 “Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27 "All
things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son
except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills
to reveal Him. 28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 “For My
yoke is easy and My burden is light.’”
The following quotation from MacArthur’s
introduction to these verses speaks of the salvation message which is the theme
of all Scripture: “The heart of the
gospel is that ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’ (1 Tim.
1:15). Jesus said that He came ‘to seek
and to save that which was lost’ (Luke 19:10).
He tells men that because He is the Bread of Life, those who come to Him
will never hunger and those who believe in Him will never thirst (John 6:35;
cf. 7:37). Because He is the Light of
the World, those who follow Him will ‘not walk in the darkness, but shall have
the light of life’ (8:12). Because He is
‘the resurrection and the life,’ those who believe in Him will live even if
they die (11:25).”
Way
back in the book of Genesis chapter three and verse fifteen we see the very
first promise of a coming Savior as God told Adam and Eve that one day their
descendant would bruise the serpent’s head, which is a picture of Christ’s
conquest of Satan. Let us look at a
number of verses from the prophet Isaiah as we close this part of our
introduction to these verses. “"Turn
to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no
other’” (Isa. 45:22). “1 "Ho! Every
one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and
eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. 2 "Why do you spend money for what is not
bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and
eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. 3 "Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen,
that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According
to the faithful mercies shown to David” (Isa. 55:1-3; focus on 1 and 3). One more verse from Revelation: “17 The Spirit and the bride say,
"Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the
one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without
cost” (Rev. 22:17).
We
close as the hymn writer F. W. Faber reminds us,
“There’s
a wideness in God’s mercy
Like the
wideness of the sea.
There’s
a kindness in His Justice
That is
more than liberty.
For the
love of God is broader
Than the
measure of man’s mind;
And the
heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully
kind.
