PT-4 "The Response of Unbelieving Indifference" (Matt. 11:20-24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/16/2021 11:13 AM

My Worship Time                              Focus:  PT-4 “The Response of Unbelieving Indifference”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Matthew 11:20-24

Message of the verses:20 Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 “Nevertheless I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you. 23 “And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You shall descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. 24 "Nevertheless I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.’”

We now begin to look at another city that was guiltier still, and that would be Capernaum as we read ““And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You shall descend to Hades.”  I have mentioned in earlier SD’s that this is where Jesus made His headquarters in this very beautiful, prosperous fishing village which was on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.  This is where He performed more miracles and preached more sermons in and around Capernaum than any other place during His entire ministry.  He raised Jairus’s daughter from the dead here and healed the nobleman’s son.  It was here that He healed the demoniac, also healed Peter’s mother-in-law, the woman with the hemorrhage, the two blind men, the centurion’s servant, the dumb demoniac, and the paralytic who was lowered through the roof by his friends.  Just take a moment to think about all that was done by the Lord here, and yet there was very little response from the people who saw and lived near where all this was done.  Jesus goes on to say about the people in this city “And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you?”  He goes on to tell them where they will eternally be “You shall descend to Hades.”  I have written about Hades before and mentioned that this was not hell, and another name for this was Gehenna, which was a dump outside the gates of Jerusalem where the fire did not ever go out.  I also mentioned that from a book that I read written by Erwin W. Lutzer “One Minute After You Die.”  In this book he states that no one is in hell now, but it will be after the Great White Throne Judgments that unbelievers will be sent to hell.

I will try and conclude this section in our next SD as there are some very trying things going on today.
