PT-2 "Jesus' Last Word's to Israel" (Matt. 23:37-39)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/12/2023 7:20 AM

My Worship Time                                                        Focus:  PT-2 “Jesus’ Last Words to Israel”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Matthew 23:37-39

Message of the verses:  37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. 38 “Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! 39 “For I say to you, from now on you shall not see Me until you say, ‘BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!’"”

This is Sunday morning and usually my SD’s are not that long because I have to go to Sunday school and teach my lesson, and today it is on the prophet Zechariah, so let me just begin with a quotation from John MacArthur that really has a lot of meaning for what is going on in the world today even though this was written in 1988.  “To those who know and believe Scripture, there perpetuation is not surprising, because, since He made His covenant with Abraham some four thousand years ago, God has pledged to preserve His chosen people and one day to call them permanently back to Himself.”  It is my prayer that what is going on in Israel today will cause some to open up their eyes and give themselves to their Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Since what has happened in the time period that these verses were written that is because they have not accepted their Messiah, and will soon kill Him that even though they cry out to God He will not answer.  They will wonder why, if they are indeed His chosen people, they have suffered so much at the hands of the world’s most wicked people?  Why, if He called all of His holy prophets from among them, has He since deserted them to the prejudice and malice of ungodly men?  If they are the apple of God’s eye, why has so much hatred arisen specifically against them and caused them incalculable misery and anguish?

MacArthur closes this introduction:  “In the close of this His last public message, Jesus gave the sobering answer to such questions, yet He gave it with intense compassion and with the assurance of Israel’s ultimate conversion.”
