EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 3/22/2025 7:10 PM
My Worship Time
Focus: PT-3 “The Particulars of God’s
Testimony”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
1 John 5:6-9
Message of the verses: “6 This is he who came
by water and by blood, Jesus Christ; not by water only but by water and by
blood. 7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is true. 8 There are
three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood: and all three are in
agreement. 9 If we take the witness of men to be true, the witness of God is
greater: because this is the witness which God has given about his Son.”
Now after John baptized Jesus, “Jesus came up immediately
from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of
God descending as a dove and lighting on Him” (Matt. 3:16). Now the physical manifestation of the Holy
Spirit’s presence provided visible evidence of the Father’s testimony to the
Son, especially to John the Baptist. Now we will look at John 1:32-34 to John
the Baptist:
“32 John testified saying, "I have seen
the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33 “I
did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He
upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One
who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’ 34 “I myself have seen, and have testified
that this is the Son of God.’”
Now after the Father’s visual testimony
by the Spirit to Jesus came His explicit declaration, “This is My beloved Son,
in whom I am well-pleased” (Matt. 3:17).
It was those words, reminiscent of Psalm 2:7 and also Isaiah 42:1
expressed the Father’s approval of the Son, and His attestation of Him as being
the Messiah. I think it would be best to
quote both Psalm 2:7 and then Isaiah 42:1 at this time:
“7 "I will surely tell of the decree of
the LORD: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” “1 "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations.”
John
MacArthur writes: “John then introduces
a second witness, the blood, representing Christ’s death. As He had at His baptism, the Father gave
striking testimony to Jesus in the miraculous events surrounding His
crucifixion. Matthew 27:45 records that ‘from
the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.’ In the middle of the day came a supernatural
darkness, symbolizing the Father’s forsaking of the Son as the sin-bearing
sacrifice. Sensing that, ‘Jesus cried
out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is ‘My God,
my God, why have You forsaken Me?’’(v. 46:cf. Ps. 22:1).” Let us now look at Psalm 22:1 “1 Why are the
nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?”
Now
we will end this SD by looking at another an astonishing miracle as “the veil
of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” (Matt. 27:51a). Think about that for a moment as first of all
the curtain was very heavy, but even more it was torn from the top to the
bottom which shows that it was God who tore that curtain, as this curtain
separated the Holy place from the Holy of Holies. The Gather’s act symbolized His acceptance of
Jesus’ sacrifice, through which the way into His presence was opened (cf. Heb.
10:19-20),
Lord
willing we will look at another miracle as we begin the next SD.
