EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 3/18/2025 10:55 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-3 Intro
to: “The Witness of God”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
1 John 5:6-12
Message of the verses: “6 This is he who came
by water and by blood, Jesus Christ; not by water only but by water and by
blood. 7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is true. 8 There are
three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood: and all three are in
agreement. 9 If we take the witness of men to be true, the witness of God is
greater: because this is the witness which God has given about his Son. 10 He who has faith in the Son of God has the
witness in himself: he who has not faith in God makes him false, because he has
not faith in the witness which God has given about his Son. 11 And his witness
is this, that God has
given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the
Son has the life; he who has not the Son of God has not the life.”
I want to begin with a quotation from John MacArthur’s
commentary which will then lead into another quote from Luke 24:25-27, 44-47).
“Since
the Old Testament Scriptures point unambiguously and unmistakably to Jesus
Christ and no other as the Messiah, there is no excuse for not recognizing Him
as such. The Lord chided His followers for
their obtuseness in the face of overwhelming evidence:
“25 And He said to them, "O foolish men
and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 “Was it
not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His
glory?" 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He
explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.” “44 Now He said to them, "These are My
words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which
are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled." 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46
and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and
rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness
of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”
“He also rebuked the hostile Jewish
leaders for failing to heed the Old Testament’s witness to Him: ‘You search the Scriptures,’ He told them, ‘because
you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me’
(John 5:39). The issue was not that the
Old Testament’s testimony to Jesus was unclear, but rather that they were ‘unwilling
to come to [Him] so that [they might] have life’ (v. 40).
In the book of Acts, chapter 13:26-29 it was Paul
who elaborated on that theme:
“26 “Brethren, sons of Abraham’s family, and
those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been
sent. 27 “For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing
neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath,
fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28 “And though they found no
ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed. 29
“When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him
down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.”
It
looks like there will be one more SD in order to finish this introduction and
Lord willing I will do this tomorrow.
Now I don’t usually ask prayer for anything when I write these Spiritual
Diaries, but a week or so I learned that my wife has cancer, and so there are
some things that I ask that you pray about for us. First of all that the scan she will be
getting Friday will show that it has not spread, second that she would pick out
the right surgeon to operate on her to remove this cancer. Lastly that the correct people would then
care for her soon after surgery to make sure that the cancers will not
return. I am talking about people who
treat cancer victims in a natural way, and not the typical American way.
