PT-2“Divine Provision” (2 Peter 1:3b)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/30/2025 8:14 PM

My Worship Time                                                                           Focus: PT-2“Divine Provision

Bible Reading and Meditation                                                                                  Reference: 2 Peter 1:3b

Message of the verses:  “everything pertaining to life and godliness,

I actually thought that I would get further with this verse than I did yesterday, but I had different things on my mind and so it is my desire to finish this short section this evening with the help of John MacArthur’s commentary on 2 Peter.

He writes:  The great power that gave Christians spiritual life will sustain that life in all its fullness. Without asking for more, they already have every spiritual resource needed to persevere in holy living.  Life and godliness define the realm of sanctification, the living of the Christian life on earth to the glory of God—between initial salvation and the final glorification.  With the gift of new life in Christ (John 3:15-16; 5:24; 6:47; Titus 3:7; 1 John 2:25) came everything related to sustaining that life, all the way to glorification.  That is why believers are eternally secure (John 6:35-40; 10:28-29; 2 Cor. 5:1; 1 John 5:13; Jude 1, 24-25) and can be assured God will empower them to persevere to the end (Matt. 24:13; John 8:31; Heb. 3:6, 14; Rev. 2:10), through all temptations, sins, failures, vicissitudes, struggles, and trials of life.

“The word translated godliness (susebeia) encompasses both true reverence in worship and its companion—active obedience.  Saints should never question God’s sufficiency, because His grace that is so powerful to save is equally powerful to sustain them and empower them to righteous conduct (Rom. 8:29-30; Phil. 1:6).”

This short SD that I quoted from John MacArthur’s commentary has a great deal of meaning as it shows that believers through the power of the Holy Spirit have many things to do which is described as “life and godliness” in our verse for this evening.  As believers we are to continue to grow in the Lord as we continue to trust the Lord to work out the salvation that He has so graciously given to us when He called us to this great salvation, and so we are to continue to follow what the Lord desires us to do for the cause of Christ in order to bring glory to the Lord.  Notice the highlighted verse above, a verse that is packed with things that believers should know.  I am going to quote in order the verses from this highlighted section as I close this very important SD.

15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

47 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

25 This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

Please re-read this highlighted section and go over these very important verses and then one more thing I want you to do and that is focus in on 1 John 5:13:  “13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
