PT-1 “Verses that Speak of The Expected One.”

MORNING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/20/2026 11:27 AM

My Worship Time                                   Focus:  PT-1 “Verses that Speak of The Expected One.”

As mentioned in my last SD I will begin to quote the different verses that John MacArthur has referenced to in his introduction to “Are You the Coming One.”  I have also mentioned that this will take several days to complete.

“The Old Testament is filled with references to the Expected One that point unmistakably to Jesus Christ.

“The Expected One, along with the Father and the Spirit, created everything (Gen. 1:1, 26; cf. John 1:1-3.”

(Gen. 1:1, 26; cf. John 1:1-3

“1 ¶  In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

“26 ¶  Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

“1 ¶  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2  He was in the beginning with God. 3  All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

“His coming was first promised to Adam and Eve immediately after the Fall.  God reassured them that Satan, who had deceived and devastated them, would himself be destroyed by the Expected One (Gen. 3:15; cf. 1 John 3:8).”

(Gen. 3:15; cf. 1 John 3:8)

“15  I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.’”

“8  Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”

“God’s killing of animals to provide clothes to cover Adam and Eve’s shame pictured His sacrifice for sin (Gen. 3:21).

(Gen. 3:21)

“21 ¶  And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.”

“The Expected One was to be a descendant of Abraham (Gen. 22:18; cf. Acts 3:25; Gal. 3:16), from the tribe of Judah (Gen. 49:10; cf. Heb. 7:14).”

(Gen. 22:18; cf. Acts 3:25; Gal. 3:16)

“18  and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.’’

“25  You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’”

“16  Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.”

(Gen. 49:10; cf. Heb. 7:14)

“10  The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”

“14  For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.”

“The Old Testament priest Melchizedek (‘King of righteousness’); (Heb. 7:2) pictured the Expected One in that his lack of recorded genealogy symbolized Christ’s perpetual priesthood (cf. Heb. 6:20).”

(Heb. 7:2)

“2  and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.”

(cf. Heb. 6:20)

“20  where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

“Abraham’s offering of his son Isaac (Gen. 22:1-14) symbolizes the sacrifice of the Expected One; just as God provided a ram as a substitute for Isaac, so also is Jesus the sacrifice for sinners (1 John 2:1-2).

(Gen. 22:1-14)

“1 ¶  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."   3 ¶  So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4  On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5  Then Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you." 6  And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7  And Isaac said to his father Abraham, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." He said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" 8  Abraham said, "God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son." So they went both of them together. 9  When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10  Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.  11 ¶  But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 12  He said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy or do

anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me." 13  And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14  So Abraham called the name of that place, "The LORD will provide"; as it is said to this day, "On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.’”

(1 John 2:1-2)

“1 ¶  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2  He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Spiritual Meaning for My Life Today:  Studying this section about how Jesus is seen in the Old Testament opens my eyes to understand the Old Testament better.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to trust the Lord to cause me to grow in my faith after this great loss of having my wife go to heaven who I miss greatly.  God does cause all things to work together for good for those who love Him, and belong to Him.
