The Oracle about Arabia (Isaiah 21:13-17)

SPIRITIUAL DIARY FOR 8/23/2013 10:46 AM

My Worship Time                                                                     Focus:  “The oracle about Arabia.”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                         Reference:  Isaiah 21:13-17

Message of the verses:  “13 The oracle about Arabia. In the thickets of Arabia you must spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites. 14 Bring water for the thirsty, O inhabitants of the land of Tema, Meet the fugitive with bread. 15 For they have fled from the swords, From the drawn sword, and from the bent bow And from the press of battle. 16 For thus the Lord said to me, "In a year, as a hired man would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will terminate; 17 and the remainder of the number of bowmen, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, will be few; for the LORD God of Israel has spoken.’”

As we have been looking at different nations that Isaiah has written about we have seen how all of them relate to the Assyrian invasions that they were making during this time in history.  The Arabians are no different as we see that the caravans of the Arabian merchants who were leaving from Deban would be hiding in the thickets because of the Assyrian army invasion.  They would receive food and water from an oasis town called Tema, but eventually would have to flee for there was no way that the merchants slow animals be able to out run the Assyrian army.  Dr. Wiersbe writes “Like a laborer God had a ‘contract’ to fulfill (16:14).  Within a year, the pomp and glory of the Arabian tribes would be gone.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Even though the nation of Israel is not mentioned in many of the sections we have been looking at, just the same we know that God is moving the nations around so that He will deal with Israel, for they are the “apple of His eye.”  God make the covenant with Abraham and then we see the covenant made with Moses which is called the Old Covenant, and then He makes a New covenant with Israel, which is called the New Covenant.  The covenant was made with Israel, but we as Gentiles benefit from it as we are in the Church age at this time benefiting from this New Covenant, but sometime soon God will remove His Church, the Bride of Jesus Christ and again deal with Israel for seven years during the tribulation period and then continue to deal with them in the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ as He sets on His throne in Jerusalem judging the nations from there.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to trust the Lord to guide my path.

Memory verses for the week:  All of Psalm 46.

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.  Selah.  4 There is a river whose stream make glade the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the most high.  5 God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved, God will help her when morning dawns.

6 The nations make an up roar, the kingdoms tottered; He raised His voice, the earth melted.  7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.  Selah.  8 Come behold the works of the Lord, who has wrought desolations in the earth.  9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the sword in two; He burns the chariots with fire.  10 “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  11 The Lord of Hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.  Selah.
