SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/21/2013
10:37 AM
My Worship Time
Focus: Egypt PT-2
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Isaiah 19:16-25
Message of the
verses: We will look at kind of a
short section, (short when it comes to looking at Isaiah), as we look at
something that Isaiah writes about the coming Messianic Kingdom.
God will save Egypt (Isa. 19:16-25): “16 In that day the Egyptians will become like women, and they will
tremble and be in dread because of the waving of the hand of the LORD of hosts,
which He is going to wave over them. 17 The land of Judah will become a terror
to Egypt; everyone to whom it is mentioned will be in dread of it, because of
the purpose of the LORD of hosts which He is purposing against them.
“18 ¶ In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will be
speaking the language of Canaan and swearing allegiance to the LORD of hosts;
one will be called the City of Destruction. 19
In that day
there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar to the LORD near its border. 20 It will become a sign and a witness to
the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because
of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will
deliver them. 21 Thus the LORD will make Himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD
in that day. They will even worship with sacrifice and offering, and
will make a vow to the LORD and perform it. 22 The LORD will strike Egypt,
striking but healing; so they will return to the LORD, and He will respond to
them and will heal them. 23 In
that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the
Assyrians will come into Egypt and the Egyptians into Assyria, and the
Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. 24 In that day Israel will be the third party with
Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, 25 whom the LORD of
hosts has blessed, saying, "Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the
work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.’”
We see repeated the phrase “in that day” six times in
this short section which shows us that Isaiah is speaking about the kingdom of
Jesus Christ on this earth that is described in different places in the Bible,
both Old and New Testaments. I have
mentioned on numerous occasions that there are time when the prophets will be
speaking about something in their own time and them will go and talk about
things that will happen in the future, and this is one of those times.
Here are some of the changes that will take place during
the reign of Christ as seen in this section:
According to verses 16-17 Egypt will fear Israel and then will become converted
to the worship of the One True God, and so they will put their idols away. Verses 18-22 show that Egypt will worship the
Lord at this time.
I mentioned in the last SD that the prophecies of Ezekiel
38-39 that speak of a number of nations that will attack Israel in the last day
does not include Egypt and does not include Iraq, and we see a dramatic
political change in this passage as Egypt, Assyria (Modern day Iraq), and
Israel, as because of them all knowing the Lord they will get along. Dr. Wiersbe writes “They will not only
receive God’s blessing, but they will all be a blessing to the other nations
(Vv. 23-25). Once again Isaiah picks up
his ‘highway’ theme to emphasize the unity of these three nations (see 11:16). What a wonderful day it will be when there is
peace in the Middle East because the nations have bowed before the King of
kings! We must continue praying, ‘Even
so, Come, Lord Jesus’ (Rev. 22:20).”
Spiritual meaning
for my life today: It was way back
in January of 1974 when I was listening to a series of tapes on the end times
that I put my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to save me and every since I have
had a desire to learn more about the things that will happen in the future. I have listened to people like John
MacArthur, David Jeremiah, Hal Lindsey, and now Joel Rosenberg as they teach
about the end times, and many believe we are near the time when the Lord Jesus
Christ will come to gather His Church in the clouds in what is called the
Rapture. It is good to be studying about
these events in the book of Isaiah as I look forward to the time when Jesus
Christ will rule this earth from His seat in Jerusalem. “Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.”
My Steps of Faith for Today:
Continue to trust the Lord to see me through
these times when my body is not working as it should, trusting that even this
will bring glory to the Lord.
Memory verses for the
week: All of Psalm 46.
1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though
the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the
sea; 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake with its
swelling pride. Selah. 4 There is a river whose streams make glade
the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the most high. 5 God is in the midst of her, she will not be
moved, God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations make an uproar, the kingdoms tottered; He
raised His voice, the earth melted. 7
The Lord of Hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
8 Come behold the works of the Lord, who has wrought desolations to the
earth. 9 He makes wars to cease to the
end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the sword in two; He burns the
chariots with fire. 10 “Cease striving
and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted
in the earth.” 11 The Lord of Hosts is
with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.
