Israel is like a Vine (Ezekiel 19:10-14)

SPIRITUA DIARY FOR 1/12/2015 2:51 PM

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Leadership Responsibility PT-2 “Israel is like a vine.”

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Ezekiel 19:10-14

Message of the verses:  “10 ’Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, Planted by the waters; It was fruitful and full of branches Because of abundant waters. 11 ’And it had strong branches fit for scepters of rulers, And its height was raised above the clouds So that it was seen in its height with the mass of its branches. 12 ’But it was plucked up in fury; It was cast down to the ground; And the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branch was torn off So that it withered; The fire consumed it. 13 ’And now it is planted in the wilderness, In a dry and thirsty land. 14 ’And fire has gone out from its branch; It has consumed its shoots and fruit, So that there is not in it a strong branch, A scepter to rule.’" This is a lamentation, and has become a lamentation.”

Let us first look at Genesis 49:9-12 “9 “Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares rouse him up? 10 “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. 11 “He ties his foal to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine; He washes his garments in wine, And his robes in the blood of grapes. 12 “His eyes are dull from wine, And his teeth white from milk.”  We looked at the first part of this passage in our last SD on this 19th chapter of Ezekiel and it is interesting that as Jacob gives a prophecy of his son Judah that both the lion and also the vine are in that prophecy.  There are other prophecies about Israel that speak of it being a vine:  (Isa. 5; Ps. 80:8-13; Jer. 2:21).  What also saw it in Ezekiel 15; and 17:1-10. This fruitful vine produced many kings that rebelled against the Lord and now they were punished by being taken to the country of Babylon.  They were taken from “many waters” to a “desert.”  Dr. Wiersbe writes “The last king of Judah, Zedekiah, broke his treaty with Babylon, rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar, and lost the scepter and the throne (2 Kings 24:17-25:7).  With Zedekiah the Davidic dynasty ended and he too died in captivity in Babylon (Jeremiah 52:11).”

Because of their sin and rebellion the people of Judah and Israel lost their temple and lost their city and priesthood and they stopped being a light to the Gentiles.  However God still preserved the kingly line even though they were not on the throne as Hosea 3:4 says “For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar and without ephod or household idols.”  On a cold day in a cave where the Passover lambs were born the Lord brought forth His son born to a virgin named Mary, and God’s Son would be known at the Lion of Judah as seen in Revelation 5:5, and He would be known as the true vine as seen in John 15:1, He would be a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles as seen in Luke 2:32 and would be the rightful heir to the throne of David as Luke tells in chapter one verses 66-68, even though His own people would reject Him as John writes about in John 1: 11  “He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.”  In a day yet to come the people of Israel will see Him who they pierced and receive Him as their Savior and Lord and He will sit on the throne of David and rule for 1000 years here on earth.  I am looking forward to that day!
