Israel's Exodus from Egypt (Ezekiel 20:9-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/15/2015 11:41 AM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Israel’s Exodus from Egypt

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Ezekiel 20:9-10

Message of the verses:  “9  "But I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.  10 "So I took them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.”

In the other SD that I did this morning on the book of Revelation I mentioned some things that happened in chapter 33 of the book of Exodus and I noted that what happened in chapter 33 certainly related to the things that happened earlier when Moses was on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments as the children of Israel grew impatient and had Aaron make a golden cow for them to worship.  When Moses came down many people would lose their lives, so God had every right to destroy Israel, but as we have noticed in many passages it is all about the name of the Lord.  Moses even reminded God of this when God told him that He was going to destroy them and make a nation from him.

Dr. Wiersbe writes:  “God often worked on Israel’s behalf, not because they deserved it, but for the glory of His own name (vv. 14, 22, 44; see Isa. 48:9; 66:5), just as He has saved His church today ‘to the praise of His glory’ (Eph. 1:6, 12, 14).  The account of the Exodus did go before the Jews as they marched toward the Promised Land (Josh. 2:10), and it did bring glory to God’s name.”

"For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed (Josh. 2:10).”  This was Rahab the harlot speaking this to the two spies that were staying with her and it does show that the Lord received glory because many nations heard about what happened to Egypt when God destroyed not only the nation, but the idols they worshiped.  We still know about this even today.
