A Word to Wives (Col. 3:18)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 5/18/2017 9:07 PM

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  A Word to Wives

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Colossians 3:18

Message of the verses:  “Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.”

We will look at a parallel passage from Ephesians 5:22-24 “22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.”

I have to say that when my daughter got married in July of 2000 my brother in law did not approve of when our Pastor included these verses in their marriage ceremony.  Paul is not pulling any punches as what he is say is straightforward, all you have to do is read it, for there are no hidden messages in these verses, for this is the way God set things up when He created the world.  No matter what people try to do with these verses the truth is seen in them and no matter whether or not they accept it, it is still true.  People are trying to make 2 + 2 and get another answer other than 4, but 2 + 2 = 4 and that is the truth.

Let us look at 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.”  Paul is talking about order here for as you look at how God is the head of Christ you see that this is the way that God set this up and even though Jesus is as much God as the Father the Son of God submitted to do the will of the Father as the wife is suppose to do for the husband.  We are not talking about slavery here where the woman is a slave to the husband, this passage does not teach this nor imply it.  1 Corinthians 14:34-35 says “34 The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. 35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.”  I will quote from the John MacArthur Study Bible on these verses:  “The principle of women not speaking in church services is universal; this applies to all the churches, not just locally, geographically, or culturally.  The context in this verse concerns prophecy, but includes the general theme of the chapter, i.e., tongues.  Rather than leading, they are to be submissive as God’s Word makes clear.  It is not coincidental that many modern churches that have tongue-speaking and claim gifts of healing and miracles also permit women to lead worship, preach, and teach.  Women may be gifted teachers, but they are not permitted by God ‘to speak’ in churches.  In fact, for them to do so is ‘improper,’ meaning ‘disgraceful.’  Apparently, certain women were out of order in disruptively asking questions publicly in the chaotic services.”  1 Timothy 2:11-14 tells us “11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” Paul then writes in verse 15 “But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.”  MacArthur adds “Paul goes on to say that the woman is delivered from any stigma of inferiority to the man by the blessed achievement of raising up godly children,” as seen in verse fifteen.”  Paul traces the woman’s submission back to the order of creation, and not the fall.  One more verse for this SD “to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored (Titus 2:5).”

When people do things God’s way, and not their own made up way they will work out better.
