The Man With A Strong Commitment
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Colossians
4:11
Message of the
verses: “and also Jesus who is
called Justus; these are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are
from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to me.”
I want to begin this, what will be a short SD, by looking
at what Paul wrote to the Romans: “1 I
am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me
in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.
3 For I could wish that I
myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my
kinsmen according to the flesh, 4 who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption
as sons, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the Law and the
temple service and the promises, 5 whose are the fathers, and from whom is the
Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen
(Romans 9:1-5).” Paul’s heart was broken
because the Jews of his time, and the ones of today will not see that their
Messiah has already come, just as it was prophesized that He would, and now as
we look at verse eleven of Colossians chapter four we see that only a very few Jews
were believers in Jesus Christ and stayed to support Paul while in prison.
Dr. Wiersbe writes “Jesus Justus was a Jewish believer
who served with Paul, but we know nothing about him. The name Jesus
(Joshua) was a popular Jewish name, and it was not unusual for Jewish
people to have a Roman name as well (Justus).
John Mark is a case in point.
Jesus Justus represents those faithful believers who serve God, but
whose deeds are not announced for the whole world to know. He was a fellow worker with Paul and a
comfort to Paul, and that is all we know about him. However, the Lord has kept a faithful record
of this man’s life and ministry and will reward him accordingly.” For that we can be assured!
