The Virgin Birth Clarified (Matt. 1:21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/30/2019 4:45 PM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The Virgin Birth Clarified

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Matthew 1:21

Message of the verse:  "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.’”

A heads up in this SD, and that it will be very short, but we must learn from it.

It seems like the angel wants to reinforce the truth of Jesus’ divine conception to Joseph as he says “she will bear a Son.”  One of the things that I probably don’t completely understand about Joseph is that we don’t hear anything about him after Jesus becomes 12 years old.  Joseph was chosen to be Jesus’ earth father but he would only be a foster father to Jesus.  Let us look for a moment at Luke 3:23 for some more insight:  “When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli.”

The angel tells Joseph to name the “Son…Jesus, similar as Zacharias was told to name his son John as seen in Luke 1:13.  We really are told the purpose or the significance of John’s name; however that of Jesus was made clear even before He was born.  Jesus is the form of the Hebrew Joshua, Jeshua, or Jehoshau, the basic meaning of which “Jehovah (Yahweh) will save.”  MacArthur adds “All other men who had those names testified by their names to the Lord’s salvation.  But this One who would be born to Mary not only would testify of God’s salvation, but would Himself be that salvation.  By His own work ‘He’ would ‘save His people from their sins.’”

Today’s quote from “Love in Action” is also very short.
