PT-4 "The Condemnation" (Matt. 3:8-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/19/2020 10:48 PM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  PT-4 “The Condemnation”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Matthew 3:8-10

Message of the verses:  8 "Therefore bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance; 9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ’We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 10 “And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

We ended our last SD by looking at a quote from a Puritan Pastor, and I said that we would look at a quotation from another Puritan Pastor in today’s SD.  His name is William Perkins and he wrote “Godly sorrow causeth grief for sin, because it is sin.  It makes any man in whom it is to be of this disposition and mind, that if there were no conscience to accuse, no devil to terrify, no Judge to arraign and condemn, no hell to torment, yet he would be humbled and brought on his knees for his sins, because he hath offended a loving, merciful, and long-suffering God.”

We have talked about effectual calls and we have also talked about divine appointments, when a person begins to speak with another person, perhaps a stranger, and then are led by the Spirit of God to witness to that person and then through a miracle of God that person being witnessed to becomes a believer.  It is then God who ultimately causes that person to repent of their sins and trust Christ as their Savior.  As I stated earlier it is a miracle, and people don’t believe miracles still happen, well whenever a person becomes a believer it is a great, perhaps the greatest miracle.

We can be assured that the Pharisees and the Sadducees that John was talking to were not given this kind of repentance.  These people should have realized that John was teaching the truth as they spent much time in their study of the Word of God, but their eyes were blinded to the truth because they did not want to hear it.  These people were hypocrites and they were phonies as John well knew.  They showed absolutely no evidence of a changed life.

It is Sunday evening and I am very tried as I taught Sunday school this morning then attended a church service and then we took two of our grandchildren home for the afternoon before attending evening church.

This is a very long, but an important subject we are looking at and it will take a few more SD’s to complete it.
