Worry is Unwise Because of Our Futhure (Matt. 6:34)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/10/2021 11:56 PM

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Worry Is Unwise Because of Our Future”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Matthew 6:34

Message of the verse:  34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

I certainly do not believe that Jesus is telling us not to prepare for tomorrow for there are too many places in the Word of God that speaks about our preparing for our future.  However to be anxious for tomorrow is foolish and also unfaithful.  We know that God is the God of tomorrow as well as the God of today, and for all of eternity.  Lamentations 3:22-23 states “The Lord’s lovingkindness indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22-23).

I honestly believe that there are some people who always have to have something to worry about, and sometimes I think that I am one of those persons.  The reason is that because I have spent a lot of time studying what will happen in the end times that there are times when I try and figure things out on my own, which is not something that I should be doing.  I do believe that the Rapture of the church will soon take place, and one thing that I pray about every day is that the Lord will have His Holy Spirit begin a revival in the church that will spread around the world before Jesus returns to take His church to heaven.  There is a story in the 2nd chapter of the Gospel of John that talks about the very first miracle done by our Lord, as John calls His miracles signs.  Jesus’ mother came to Him to tell Him that they were out of wine in a wedding feast that He, His mother, and His disciples attended.  This was an embarrassing situation.  Jesus asked His mother what she wanted Him to do about it.  His time had not come, but Mary simply explained to the servants to do whatever He told them to do, and then she left.  She did not tell Him what to do or how to do it.  We sometimes have prayer requests that we ask the Lord for and then proceed to tell Him how to answer the request.  Mary did not do this and neither should we and so if we follow her led then we will not worry.

Jesus goes on in this verse to say that tomorrows problems will take care of themselves as He is assuring us of this truth.  MacArthur writes “It is the conviction of the child of God who knows that tomorrow will take care of itself because it is in his heavenly Father’s hands.”

Jesus is saying further that “each day has enough trouble of its own, and this is not a call to worry about that trouble, tut to concentrate on meeting the temptations, trials, opportunities , and struggles we have today, relying on our Father to protect and provide as we have need.  There is enough trouble in each day without adding the distress of worry to it.”

We learned from our verses in Lamentation that God’s mercies are new every day and then Jeremiah goes on to say “Great is Your faithfulness.”  Sounds like a good title to a song to me.

MacArthur closes by writing “The steadfast of mind, Thou will keep in perfect peace,’ Isaiah says ‘because he trusts in Thee.  Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock’ (Isa. 26:3-4).”
