Jesus was Available (Matt. 9:19)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/2/2021 8:45 AM

My Worship Time                                                                            Focus:  “Jesus Was Available”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Matthew 9:19

Message of the verse:  19 Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples.”

We can see from this verse that Jesus was both available as well as accessible as He responds to the problem with Jairus’s daughter by following Jairus to his house.  Think about this for a moment, that is if anyone else but Jesus, what would they have done?  Well they may have gone to his house to mourn with him over the loss of his daughter, but go there to raise his daughter from the dead, only Jesus could do this.  Another thing we can see which makes Jesus more accessible and available is that He could have just spoken and his daughter would have come back to live again, but Jesus went with him.  This demonstrates a self-giving love and compassion of Jesus.  The verse says that Jesus “rose and began to follow,” so it must have meant that He was sitting down when Jairus came to Him.  This tells us that Jesus was willing to be interrupted and to go out of His way to serve others in His Father’s name.  We have to believe that there were many other sick and needy people in this area, but the need of the moment demanded that He go with Jairus.

MacArthur writes “In somewhat similar fashion, in the midst of a highly fruitful ministry in Samaria, the Lord sent an angel to Philip saying, ‘Arise and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza’ (Acts. 8:26). As soon as Philip arrived there, he met ‘an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship (v. 2 7).  When the Holy Spirit told Philip to join the Ethiopian, Philip found an eager inquirer about God and proceeded to lead the man to faith in Jesus Christ (vv. 35-37).  As soon as the new believer was baptized, ‘the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and…Philip found himself at Azotus’ many miles away (vv. 39-40).”

It is true that not only is God sensitive to the needs of the multitude but to the cry of an individual as He sometimes leads His servants, as He often led His own Son, to temporarily put a seemingly larger ministry aside in order to concentrate on one person, and that is something that is very wonderful that our Lord does.  Here is a promise that the Lord makes certain will happen “the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out” as seen in John 6:37.  We can see from our text that Jairus was the one who came to Him.

Coming along with Jesus to the house of Jairus were His disciples along with a great multitude as seen in Mark’s gospel writing (5:24).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  To be thankful that when I called upon the Lord for salvation that He did not cast me away.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I continue to trust the Lord to bring the people to our revival prayer meeting this evening that He desires to be there.     6/2/2021 9:06 AM
