SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 2/4/2022 10:23 AM
My Worship Time Focus:
“The Accusation”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
Matthew 12:24
Message of the verse: 24 But when the
Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man casts out demons only by
Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.’”
I have talked about how the Pharisees and the other
different religious leaders of Israel at the time when Christ was on
earth. They had a strangle hold on all
of the people of Israel, and once Christ came on the scene they were very much
afraid that He would take their power away from them, so in the section that we
are looking at today we can see that once some of the people who were there
when Christ healed this man speaking out that perhaps Jesus was the Messiah
that they went into panic mode and stated what we see in verse 24. As we will see later on this will become
their doom, as they will be committing the “unpardonable sin.”
In
verse 25, which we will look at, Lord willing, in our SD for tomorrow we see
that Jesus was reading their minds which indicates that the Pharisees were some
distance from Jesus, perhaps on the fringe of the crowd or standing outside as
Jesus ministered within a house. The
Pharisees intent was to poison the minds of the people against Jesus by
answering their question about Him with a resounding no. What they were saying in effect was that He
was the antithesis of the Son of David.
He was the servant of Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.
Now
as we look at what these Pharisees were saying you have to see that they knew
that Jesus had power to do these miracles, and so they would not say that He
got that power from God, but that He got it from the devil. Now as I look at this a little further down
the road I see that in 70A. D. that their whole system will be brought down to
its knees as Jerusalem will be destroyed, including the temple, which means
that the Pharisees would have no power at all as judgment will fall upon them,
but that judgment will not be as bad as when they stand before God in the “Great
White Throne Judgment” that will come at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.”
John
MacArthur writes about this word Beelzebul:
“He must serve ‘the ruler of the demons,’ for whom Beelzebul (or Beelzebub)
was a popular title, derived from the name of an ancient Canaanite deity.”
Beelzebub
Description
Beelzebub or Beelzebul is a
name derived from a Philistine god, formerly worshipped in Ekron, and later
adopted by some Abrahamic religions as a major demon. The name Beelzebub is
associated with the Canaanite god Baal. In theological sources, predominantly
Christian, Beelzebub is another name for Satan. Wikipedia
