PT-1 "The Principle Stated" (Matt. 15:10-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7/11/2022 9:33 AM

My Worship Time                                                                 Focus:  PT-1 “The Principle Stated”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                         Reference:  Matthew 15:10-11

Message of the verses:  10 And after He called the multitude to Him, He said to them, "Hear, and understand. 11 “Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.’”

We are not told who this multitude is, but it is probably the same people that Jesus was speaking to in Matthew 14:3-36.  I am not really sure of the importance of who it was but I suppose it would be really nice to know.

Now as we look at two comparing passages from John and Mark we cans see that the particular period of healing and teaching by our Lord apparently lasted for many days, and the reason is because it carried Jesus to numerous villages, cities, and countryside’s as we see in Mark 6:56 “Wherever He entered villages, or cities, or countryside, they were laying the sick in the market places, and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were being cured.”  MacArthur adds “Sometime during this period of delegation of scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem had come to Galilee to discredit Jesus and had instead been discredited by Him.”

It was the multitudes that had been standing along the sidelines listening to Jesus condemn the religious leaders.  Now it was time for Him to call them in order to explain what He had just said about unscriptural traditions and about empty worship.

We see Jesus had said to them Hear and understand and this is a common way of saying to the crowd that they had better listen up for what I have to say is very important.  Now of course everything that Jesus said was important, but He wanted them to listen carefully as He began to tell them about what He has to say, it is extremely important.  The words that Jesus was using will not really be hard to understand, but that it would be hard to accept because of the long time teaching that they had heard from the Pharisees and other religious leaders.  MacArthur writes “The greatest stumbling block to salvation has always been lack of acceptance and belief of the gospel, not lack of understanding it.  It is precisely when the gospel is clearest—as when it was taught by Jesus Himself—that it is also likely to be the most unacceptable.”  Perhaps this statement is true because of the brainwashing of the false teachers.  Now to add to this I want to talk about a group of teenagers from our church those who had just finished the 9th grade to those who finished graduating who spent a week in Mormon country in Utah and Arizona.  My oldest grandson was with this group and from what we heard from the Pastors who went along he did a great job.  My point is not to brag about my grandson but to say that the people they encountered as they witnessed to the Mormons was that these Mormons had been brainwashed just like the Pharisees and other religious leaders had brainwashed the people of Israel with their traditions.  We can call both cults, people who do not understand and believe who the Person of Jesus Christ really is, that He is God incarnate who came to do His Father’s will while on earth in order to be our Sacrifice as He died on the cross for our sins, was buried for three days, and then God raised Him from the dead.  He is the God/Man who created the world, who is the second Person of the trinity, and I am thankful to say that He is my Savior and my Lord, the One who deserves all worship from me.

Lord willing we will continue on this section in our next SD.
