PT-2 "The Principle Violated" (Matt. 15:12-14)`

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7/17/2022 8:09 AM

My Worship Time                                                               Focus:  PT-2 “The Principle Violated”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                               Reference: Matthew 15:12-14

Message of the verses:  12 Then the disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?" 13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. 14 “Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.’”

I am surely thankful for all of the research that John MacArthur puts into the sermons that he preaches and also in the commentaries that he writes which come from the sermons.  However the sermons are many times much longer and contain more things that he writes in his commentaries.  With that said here are some interesting facts from his commentary:  “The Pharises so idolized their system of tradition that they actually taught that God spent all day studying His own law and all night studying the Mishna that interpreted the law.  Some believed God presided over the heavenly Sanhedrin, that the rabbis sat next to God according to their holiness, and that together they studied the Halakah (the legal part of the Talmud) and made decisions.  They taught that, after God had spent such hard work studying the law and the Mishna, He spent three hours each evening playing with leviathan.  The Lord was so distraught at the destruction of the temple, they claimed, that in each of the three watches of the night, He roared like a lion; and when He cried, His tears fell into the ocean and caused earthquakes.  They even taught that, like themselves, God wore a prayer shawl and phylacteries.  Worst of all, they taught that when Moses died, God touched his body and was therefore Himself defiled and had to be cleansed by Aaron, the first high priest.  They had carefully boxed the Creator of the universe within their imaginative, petty, foolish, and wicked system.”

If one runs into a hypocrite the first thing that you do not want to do is to tell them the truth, for as seen here in this section they were offended by the truth.  The people who live in spiritual and moral darkness cannot stand to be exposed to the light and to be shown for what they really are.  The truth tears off their masks and reveals the sinful, ugly reality behind it.

There is more to be said about hypocrites, so second hypocrites are destined for judgment, and the reason is because, Jesus said, every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up.  I think that we know more about these plants that the Lord will root up which is seen in the parable of the wheat and tares, and the tares are the ones that God allows to grow alongside the godly wheat.  However at the end of the age the tares will be “gathered up and burned with fire” as God’s angels “will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire (Matt. 13:40-42)

Lord willing we will look at some more from these verses in our next SD.
