The Condemning Judge (Matt. 15:1-9)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7/2/2022 9:27 AM

My Worship Time                                                                      Focus:  “The Condemning Judge”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                        Reference:  Matt. 15:1-9

Message of the verses:  1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying, 2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3 And He answered and said to them, "And why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 "For God said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,’ and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, LET HIM BE PUT TO DEATH.’ 5 "But you say, ‘Whoever shall say to his father or mother, "Anything of mine you might have been helped by has been given to God," 6 he is not to honor his father or his mother.’ And thus you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 “You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 ‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. 9 ‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’"”

We began looking at the 14th chapter of Matthew on the 29th of May and finished looking at it yesterday, July 1, 2022.  That chapter went by fairly quickly, much faster than the 13th chapter of Matthew.

Now what we will be looking at today is actually an introduction to the first nine verses of chapter fifteen which MacArthur entitled “The Condemning Judge” and so we will only do this introduction for today’s SD, but then there will be a couple of sub-sections to this larger section which, Lord willing, we will begin tomorrow, but probably won’t get too far because of it being Sunday.  That first sub-section is entitled “The Confrontation” and it just focuses in on the first two verses of chapter fifteen.

“Just as Jesus offered compassion for the fickle crowds who wanted only food and healing from Him, He offered condemnation for the self-righteous, hypocritical religious leaders who wanted nothing from Him.  They wanted nothing at all to do with Him, except what was necessary to discredit and destroy Him.

“In this critical passage we see the antithetical (opposing) nature of the gospel message in Jesus’ teaching: the God of compassion is also the God of condemnation.  Just as He heals those who come to Him, He condemns those who reject Him.  In these nine verses we first see Jesus’ confrontation and then His condemnation of the unbelieving and rebellious scribes and Pharisees.”

So that is the outline that we will be following as we go through these confrontational verses at the beginning of chapter fifteen, verses that will probably begin the last year of our Lord’s ministry on planet earth, ending with His crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection, before His ascension back into heaven where He continues to minister to His church, His bride from heaven until the church age is complete and then He returns to get His bride and take His bride up to heaven.  After that He will return in power to end a war that almost destroys planet earth.  He will then judge between the sheep and goats, but the goats into Sheol.  Next he will put the earth back into what is was like when first created, take His seat in Jerusalem on David’s throne and rule in the 1000 year kingdom.  At the end of that kingdom there will be a short revolt, as Satan is taken out of the pit.  This won’t last long as the Lord will take care of this and end it.  Next will be the final judgment “The White Throne Judgment” which I believe will take place in heaven.  All those who are in this judgment will be sentenced to hell for eternity.  The earth and the entire universe will be “uncreated” as it is destroyed.  A new heaven, new earth, and New Jerusalem will then be revealed where all believers will live for eternity with the Lord and serve Him forever.
