Intro to "The Blind Will Never See" (Matt. 16:1-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/9/2022 10:18 AM

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Intro to “The Blind will Never See”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Matthew 16:1-4

Message of the verses: 1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Him asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 But He answered and said to them, "When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ 3 “And in the morning, ’There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? 4 “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah." And He left them, and went away.

I mentioned that in our last SD that I have concluded the second book of four books that make up John MacArthur’s commentary on the book of Matthew.  Sometime in the middle of November, Lord willing, we will begin our fourth year in our study of Matthew, and to tell you the truth I never dreamed that it would take so long to go through this first book of the New Testament, but I can also say that I believe this has been a very rewording task in studying this Gospel.

Having good eyesight is very important to every person on this planet, and in America we spend billions of dollars a year to make sure we can see well.  However there are still many blind people who live in our country.

Here is a bigger problem that everyone on planet earth has, and that is since the sin of Adam and Eve all people are born spiritually blind.  MacArthur writes “They fall into two categories; those who will never see and know God and those who, by the grace of God and the illumination of the Holy Spirit, are enabled to see and to have intimate fellowship with Him.  The deciding factor is how a person is related to Jesus Christ.  The person who rejects, the Savior remains forever blind; the person who confesses Him as Lord is given spiritual sight as well as spiritual life.  Unfortunately, men do not universally have the desire for spiritual sight that they do for physical.  The vast majority do not know they are spiritually blind and do not care.  Even when offered sight, many refuse it.”  I believe that this quote is truthful, and I also believe that because it is truthful that it is very sad.

Let us now look at John 1:9-11 which speaks about our Lord:  “9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.”  Paul writes the following in Romans 1:20-21 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  We see here that even with evidence of God plainly before them, unregenerate men refuse to see Him.  That is because their eyes reject the evidence because their hearts reject the One who gives it.  I have to say that this section of Romans goes entirely against evolution, something that comes straight out of the mouth of Satan.  The word in Hebrew Ex Nihilo means that God created things out of nothing, as He just spoke and the world came into being.  In evolution there always has to be something there that grows or something else, but that is not true with creation as God spoke and the worlds came into existence.

We will look at a couple more verses and then will stop for today.  “14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised” (1 Cor. 2:14).  Evolutionists are what this verse calls “a natural man.”  17 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;” (Eph. 4:17-18).

Now keep in mind we are talking about blindness, and Lord willing we will continue this introduction in our next SD.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  “I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.”  That is truly Amazing Grace.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To walk in the light as He is in the light.
