PT-2 "The Certainty of Christian Assurance" (1 John 2:3-6)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/23/2024 10:13 AM

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  PT-2 “The Certainty of Christian Assurance”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                        Reference:  1 John 2:3-6

Message of the verses:  3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5  but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

I want to continue to talk about assurance as it is not only a privilege; it is also a birthright that Christians posses as members of the body of Christ.  Let’s look at some verses that go along with that statement.  First Romans 5:1 “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” Romans 8:16 “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”  Now we can compare with these verses Psalm 3:3 “But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.”  Next John 10:27-29 “27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (John 10:27-29).  Next Phil. 1:6 “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Next and last 1 Thess. 1:4 “knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you” (1 Thess. 1:4).

John MacArthur writes “Though the assurance of salvation is part of redemption and vital to joy and comfort, God’s Word teaches that it is possible to forfeits it, unless one pursues it. The apostle Peter wrote, “therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you” (2 Peter 1:10a; cf. Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.’’  Peter revealed that this certainty comes to those who pursue all the features of holiness with increasing diligence (vv. 5-8)”  “5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6  and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
