PT-4 Intro to "The Danger of False Teaching" (2 Timothy 2:14-19)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 2/9/2025 7:47 AM

My Worship Time                                      Focus:  PT-4 Intro to “The Danger of False Teaching”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                               Reference: 2 Timothy 2:14-19

Message of the verses:  14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.’”

I will continue quoting from John MacArthur’s introduction, and I remind all who read this to continue to be in prayer for John MacArthur who is having heart issues and has spent much time in the hospital.

“He continued to inform the young pastor that ‘the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron….In pointing out these  things to the brethren, you will be a good servant  of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following (4:1-2, 6; cf. 6:3-4, 20-21).

“Already in the second letter, Paul has admonished Timothy, ‘Retain the standard of should words which you have heard from me, in  the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.  Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you’ (2 Tim. 1:13-14).  In a later passage he cautions:

1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4  treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5  holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 6  For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 7  always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

This ends the introduction by John MacArthur for our verses that we will continue to look at beginning tomorrow, Lord willing with 2Timothy 2:14a).
