PT-11 "Lovers of Self" (2 Tim. 3:2-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/12/2025 7:16 AM

My Worship Time                                                                           Focus:  PT-11 “Lovers of Self”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  2 Timothy 3:2-4

Message of the verses:  2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3  unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;”

This morning we want to look at the last section in verse three haters of good, hating what should be loved and loving what should be hated.  These sink to what amounts to an animal level; but unlike animals, they know what is good yet choose to despise and oppose it.  “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! (Isa. 5:20)  MacArthur concludes “Haters of good remain under God’s judgment.”

He goes on to write “Lovers of self eventually become treacherous, turning against even their own families and friends.  Treachery comes naturally to a person who loves money, who is boastful and arrogant, ungrateful and unholy, unloving and irreconcilable, a malicious slander who has lost self-control, and who is brutal and hates what is good.

“Jesus warned the Twelve that ‘brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.  And you will be hated by all on account of My name’ (Matt. 10:21-22; cf. 24:9-10).  Whenever the church has suffered persecution, true believers have been betrayed into the hand of the oppressors, often by members of their own families who value safety and prosperity above devotion and fidelity.  Feigned love and friendship becomes means of treachery.  That is also the time when genuine loyalty proves itself, often at a high price.”

I will look at one more and then hopefully will finish this long section in tomorrow’s SD.

“The reckless person is careless, negligent, and rash.  This characteristic is not as serious as most of the others and often is manifested unconsciously.  The self-centered person is so preoccupied with his own interests that he simply does not notice people and things around him that are not related to those egotistic concerns.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  I have to believe that because after being born-again which means I still have the “flesh” involved in my life that I do some of these characteristics that I have been looking at for the past eleven days.  Now because I have the Holy Spirit in my life, that means that He will guide me to do right, and convict me to when I am not doing right.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I desire to continue to trust the Lord to give directions to my wife as she continues to look for ways that will help her rid her body of this cancer.  I desire to be a good supporter to her as we go through this difficult situation that we find ourselves in at this time in our lives.  May God be glorified as we trust Him to guide us.
