EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/13/2025 9:55 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-2 “Living in the Truth”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 John 1-4
Message of the verses: “1 The elder to the
chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also
all who know the truth, 2 for the sake of the truth which abides in us and will
be with us forever: 3 Grace, mercy and peace will be with us, from God
the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 4 I
was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we
have received commandment to do from the Father.”
Last night I ended my evening SD by quoting a paragraph
from John MacArthur’s commentary which had many, many references from the Bible
that go along with this subject of truth.
As one reads over MacArthur’s commentaries one will find that he does this
a lot, and I believe this is a very good way to study the Bible, by comparing
one Scripture with another otherwise you can get yourself in trouble by just
looking at one verse that perhaps you don’t understand and then if you compare
it with other verses you can better understand the Bible. I have an apt on my phone which if I click on
a word from the Scripture it will show you the meaning of that word and also
tell you how many times that word is used in different verses of the
Bible. This is very helpful in studying
the Word of God. Now I will quote a
paragraph from MacArthur’s commentary on the subject of truth that we have been
looking at.
“Believers must be committed to the truth, because we
exist in the world, which is the realm of Satan (1 John 5:19), the ‘father of
lies’ (John 8:44). He strives to keep
sinners from understanding and believing the truth; he is ‘the god of this
world [who] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see
the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God’ (2
Cor. 4:4). As a result, ‘Everyone
deceives his neighbor and does not speak the truth, they have taught their
tongue to speak lies’ (Jer. 9:5). Unbelievers
are ‘men of depraved mind and derived of the truth” (1 Timothy 6:5), who ‘oppose
the truth’ (2 Tim. 3:8) and ‘turn away their ears from the truth’ (2 Tim. 4:4) because
‘they exchanged the truth of God for a lie’ (Rom. 1:25).”
At this time I want to quote from my Sunday school lesson
that I went over this morning which to me has some things to do with some of
these verses that we just went over.
“In Fayette Township, New
York, Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon religion, organizes the Church of
Christ during a meeting with a small group of believers.
Born in Vermont in 1805, Smith claimed in 1823 that he had been
visited by a Christian angel named Moroni who spoke to him of an ancient Hebrew
text that had been lost for 1,500 years. The holy text, supposedly engraved
on gold plates by a Native American historian in the fourth century, related
the story of Israelite peoples who had lived in America in ancient times.
During the next six years, Smith dictated an English translation of this text
to his wife and other scribes, and in 1830 The Book of Mormon was
published. In the same year, Smith founded the Church of Christ–later known as
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints–in Fayette Township.” (From
“This Day in History Website.) (Italics added)
Now as you read this over and think
about it you will probably come up with the fact that this is not the truth as
far as being a Mormon is not the truth but a lie, and I really don’t know where
Smith found these so-called “Hebrew text” which had supposedly been lost for
1500 years. This is how Satan uses a lie, and if I had to guess I would say
that Satan had something to do with Smith finding these texts in the first
place.
Ok that is all I am going to do for
this evening as it is my hope to finish this section tomorrow evening.
I have mentioned the test that my
wife and I are going through as she has cancer and is supposed to be operated
on at the end of this month. We are
trying to stay focused on the Lord knowing that He knows all things and
controls all things and so my prayer is that the Lord will receive glory
through this issue that we are both going through. Any prayers for Sandy and me will be
appreciated. Thank you in advance.
